Looking for photos of chassis's that use '35 and later axles with spring in front, preferably with bones intact. I know it was not common, but certainly was around...Khougaz, Isky and Mack are just a few that come to mind... I am really interested in the frame design used with this type of set-up. Thank!
For a spring in front, it's all in the crossmember. A The spring in front rides lower B the axle needs to clear the frame A+B = dipped crossmember
My T, originally built in 1957 used a complete 40 Ford front end. I added the 37 Ford tube and the Buick brake drums. The wishbones are split.
@evintho thanks! Are you concerned about the tires hittin' your bones? Looks killer! I think with a suicide mount you can really control the wheelbase, which some say is the issue with using the spring ahead. I'd imagine you'd could run an intact wishbone as easily as you could with a spring over or behind axle. I know some don't like the look, but the intersecting arches of the axle and spring really appeals to me.
The backing plate hits the adjustable spindle stop at full lock to keep the tires from hitting the bones. I think my wheelbase is 109".
Morning bump....hoping this is useful to some as the '35 and later axles are readily available and sure come with some nice standard equip.
