Well we are back from the frozen tundra that is called Ky.
We had a good time loading the car . My brand new winch jumped the spool and jammed the cable so Lloyd grabbed his portable winch and pulled it the rest of the way on trailer. I really did not want to to crank the motor in 37 degree weather and try and load it with a cold motor. It's hard on the clutch and the motor.
We are home and the car already has the back bumper installed and the side trim . I had to make an insulator pad for mirror so I cut one out off some black plastic that I had. I got the grill installed. Should be able to have the front bumper and head light bezels on by noon tomorrow.
Drained the radiator and need to drain the block to get all of the anti freeze out so I can refill it with water.
Had to do some welding on my trailer as soon as I got home found a crack and rather than put it off I just dragged the welder out and fixed it.
Will try and post some pictures tomorrow or Wed. Need to give the car a good once over ,clean it and get ready for this weekend.
Lloyd is the man! If you have to drag your shit 5 hours one way it is worth it to know that someone sets a date and actually sticks to it.

I have relations in Kentucky ( no, not those kind), Paducah, Bowling Green, and even some in Knoxville Tennessee, may have to give them a nod towards old Lloyds Auto Body.

Well I worked all day today on the car. I got the front end back together. Got the side trim on.
I got all of the sanding dust out of the interior.
Had to go harbor freight and exchange my winch for my trailer. Even though it was past the 90 day warranty they swapped it out no problem. I bought the extended warranty this time.

I have a special tune I can put in the car to make it play that song.
I actually saw Alice Cooper in concert in Frankfort ,Germany in 1972 when that was on the charts. He was backed up by Frank Zappa that night. It was a wild night. They didn't have cops at those concerts ,they had Red Cross workers to care care of the overdoses.
I was in the army then. I even think I was young once.

Actually yes it does. I can still remember riding the train from Giessen to Frankfort with some Army buddies, but can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

When I got drafted in September '71 never thought I'd make it through 8 weeks of basic training let alone 2 years. And now its been almost 50 years. Luckily I can remember the good times more so than the pretty shitty times.

It was great to meet you, Mike. The wagon looked even better in person. 163914224_2931254717149310_5763332982567948089_n.jpg

Yes it was great to meet you. Thanks for the compliment but Lloyd gets all of the credit.
It's too bad the sun never came out so the flake could pop.
We had plenty of folks that liked it. We had a great time in spite of the unusual cold and windy weather for Florida.
The car made improvements on every pass. I think I have found the limits of the original 6 cylinder leaf springs.
It was dribbling the back tires like a basketball. It bent the leafs right in front of the rear shackles.
I took my spring stiffener plates off the front and clamped them on the back and it picked up 4 tenths. So I know it is time to order new springs and while I am ordering them why not just get some split mono leafs and have the best.
My internet is down until Tuesday afternoon so I am using my phone. 20210320_113150.jpeg 20210320_130252.jpeg

Good to hear you had a uneventful weekend. Looks like you are finding the ET’s a little at a time. Keep us posted.

I looked at your threads tonight and didn't see one specifically for your small block, I'm curious as to what heads you can run in your class because the factory sbf heads were pathetic.

You can run any 20 degree SBF head. Aluminum or cast .
I am running ProMaxx 210 CNC ported heads.
After talking to the tech guy at Howard's cams we come to the conclusion that I need to advance my cam 6 degrees to get my centerline to 102. I knew I was missing something . The motor sounds too good not to be one of the top cars in the class.
So I will start tearing the front of the motor apart tomorrow morning.
I finished welding on my trailer today. Building ramp storage so I don't have to take up room in the back of my truck.

6 degrees is a lot, you should notice a bump in bottom end.

Just wondering what you degreed the cam in in the beginning? Was it what the cam card stated? Just for my personal knowledge.

Most aftermarket cams come with 4 degrees advance already built in when ground. I'd be checking P/V clearance, but that's just me.

I originally put it in straight up at 108 . The tech guy was very specific about going to 102. I asked that
same question about the cam being ground advanced.
I planned on pulling a head and checking the p/v clearance. got my self in trouble with that before on a big block Chevy.
supposed to have bad weather for the next few days. So it will give me something to do.

I thought it was ground with 2 degrees advance, but I’m old and don’t remember everything right. But should pick up ET quiet a bit.

I am looking for a 1/2 second in the 60 foot. That's where it is killing me. I saw a still shot of the car on the SEGA site and the front wheels are in the air, but my 60 is off bad compared to the faster cars.
My 60 is only 1.91 compared to 1.50's for the top cars. In the first round of eliminations I had a .002 light and had a full half car on the car in the other lane but he made it up by 100 ft.
I am comparing the other similar type cars and I have way too much body separation on my tires compared to the little white Falcon and the record setting Yellow Comet. So I need those new springs and more shock control .
So by the next race I need some better adjustable shocks and a set of Calvert split mono leafs.
check out the SEGA website there are 320 photos from the race. I don't know how to bring them over here or I would do it for y'all. Thanks again for following our quest to make the school bus a contender.

I saw the pics and you're right: that was a lot of spring wrap and separation. The Calverts should help.

I'm still trying to figure out how the white '62 Falcon got so much air with leafs and slapper bars. He hung the tires a good foot, easy.

Started racing with a sbf and I always ran 4 plus degrees. you need that low-end power.
