They must have been referring to this one, and by the way, this one's got it all wrong, not just the shackles.

It’s song writing. The words flow more than make sense.

Try understanding Manfreds Mann’s cover of Blinded by the Light.

"Racing in the Streets" also by Springsteen.

I 100% of the time picture longer shackles in the back to put the ass of that GTO up higher but I guess being the same base as a chevelle they’d have coil springs. Surprised I missed that lol.

that being said I’ve yet to hear one that didn’t have something amiss

Not all Chevelles had rear coils.

That's like some movies, one I watched some time back had a guy open the hood, there was a small block with a single 4 bbl. The guys look at it and one says ' yeah its got a big block with dual efi holley carbs" I just shook my head.....

Or the torch where a guy is supposed to be cutting metal and the flame is yellow and couldn't cut nothing....

    ....

Ok, Red Dirt Road. That line is about being held back from being free, as in “shackled”, not raised up suspension.

Tell Laura I love her...."He drove his car to the racing ground". Racing ground? Ovals, yes..road courses, yes..drag strips, yes.. racing grounds, no. There are proving grounds, coffee grounds, grounds for divorce, but no "racing grounds". the rest of the song is equally idiotic but it was a big hit. Don't get me started on Teen angel.

"Little Deuce Coupe". It may have been "ported and relieved" and "stroked and bored", but "a hundred and forty on the top end floored" is a stretch for a street driven coupe.

If it was bought from Harry Mann Chevrolet it had 6 tail lights. Since the song was a SoCal original I’m sure many saw 6 tail light Corvette as Harry Mann was a top seller in LA.

To be fair the original Jan and Dean version sang “hundred and four” in the top end floored. They also said it would wax a Stingray rather than a Thunderbird like it was standing still.

Harry Mann Chevrolet was a local performance-oriented dealership, "Corvette Headquarters" so to speak, when I was growing up in the LA area. Big on Dealer Installed performance options, I didn't realize that they also did some popular body mods. My boss, Carman Pisano, was their "outsource" for Rochester F.I. service and tuning in the '60s.
