I recently had my driveway paved. I live out in the sticks and my driveway is about 800' long. The first part of the driveway leads from the road to the house. The second part leads from the house to my garage. I got to thinking the second part of the driveway would look cool if it were striped like an actual road.

So that's exactly what I did. What do you all think? I scaled it down to 1/2 of actual road stripes. I had real road signs scaled down as well. I still have to post the Stop signs and the Speed Limit 65 signs. I figure I'll probably never drive on old route 66 so why not bring old route 66 to my house? I'm going to build a 1/2 scale replica of an old Texaco station for a tool shed. That'll be phase 2!!

    Enjoy

Cool idea, but whats with the 4x4 sticking up through the middle of it? I know I'd catch my trailers fenders on that more than once...

Cool, but a scaled down drag strip would have been COOLER!

Haa!! That's not a 4x4, it's a piece of PVC tubing. It goes into a hole in the driveway. If the post is in the driveway, I'm not back in the garage, if it's not there, I'm probably out back. That way, if one of the guys happens to stop by, they know to drive all the way back to the garage, otherwise, I'm in the house.

I have some pretty lazy friends who won't walk the 300 feet back to the garage....even if beer is involved. It's difficult to see in the pictures but the driveway is only 11' wide. The post is about 5 1/2' from the edge of the driveway.

Pick up a vintage stop light (the small ones they used on city streets) and hang it at your "intersection". Red would let your buds know you're not there, green tells them to come on in, and yellow could mean I'm here but out of beer!

Your a hot rodder and your personal road speed limit is 65? Might as well make it 165

Now you`ll have all the masses, thinking it`s a public road.

That's really cool. We have an area at work that I turned into a little town. I painted the sidewalks like a road and put up stop signs. We have sheds so the concrete leading to them are like driveways and I painted the shed numbers on them like in a neighborhood.

Great idea! I was thinking of a scaled down speed limit, until I read OLDNUTS comment.

I have a full sized Speed Limit hanging in the garage. It's posted at 105. We had a bunch of blank speed limit signs from the DOT and I had some extra time on my hands! I went with 65 because back in the day, that was a common limit. My goal is to have an authentic looking stretch of old route 66.

That is one nice driveway. If you have that kind of imagination I bet your car has some very neat ideas as well. Show us a picture of what travels that stretch of driveway.
