Love these! There’s a video on Amazon prime called something super generic like “drag racing films” and it’s hours of dotage from the 1956 nationals in Kansas City.

you’d be shocked at how many of those guys are not only still around, but cruising some of the same hot rods!

fantastic post. Thanks for bringing it to our attention Ryan!

When the grass starts to grow again, this is what I use to cut the lawn. For about 60 years.

  13. I've often wished there was a place to archive all my old pics. I have mostly streetdriven hotrods but they date back to the early 70's. I'm 75 now and I know my daughter won't want to keep them. Maybe not my Gandsons. Any ideas?

I have that EXACT push mower, used as a lawn ornament, in a garden. Same tires and all. Mine does't have the "rings" on the long shaft; always wondered why the wood handle and metal shaft? The first pic of the dragster, both guys are wearing the same clothes, have the same haircut, and have the same heavy chain and cross necklace. Sort of like a religious thing? Always like that style of dragster. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

My dad has a friend that was a photographer that traveled with the car club and he has thousands on pics. I have tried to talk him into letting me just borrow them to make copies, but he is weird about it. He has no kids that care about the history. I am afraid it will all be lost, when he passes.

As the HAMB says: If there are no photos than it didn't happen.

  21. In case you may have missed it, I posted more pics in a Happy New Year thread. Many were early drag racing.

Talk to him WITH your Dad. Let him know just how historically significant his photos are. It's "Americana" from the mid century industrialism that built this country. The photos need to be shared with future generations.
Possibly he will leave them to you as caretaker in his will. Stranger things have been left in will's.

As with Roothawg's friend's photos, there needs to be an archive.
Websites are great but vulnerable to the domain going away when an administrator becomes disinterested or passes.
Hot Rodding (and Customs) need a Smithsonian of sorts to archive photos, film, etc. An automotive museum is a likely curator to archive and rotate displays (along with perhaps offering said features on a website for all to see) but which one? All the other motorsports seem to have dedicated museums (NASCAR, NHRA, Indy, LSR).
    We need a HAMB museum @Ryan !

  23. A great pic is not worth much unless it's shared. :) Another forum I'm involved in uses something like archive.org to host items. The webmaster has said that if the forum goes down, the important items will still be available.
