Projects Something from nothing. 29 roadster build

  1. Looks great wheeldog!

Quick comment: I would make sure 7.50s would work before you buy some. They are ~32 inches tall, so you can measure to the center of the rear axle 16 or 17 inches. Reason I say this is because you have a dropped front axle and a z'd rear like me. (Albeit rear axle is different). I used 7.50s on my car, but even with my straight axle, the car needed 6.50s up front!

    Keep up the good work!

I'm confused by this . Why would you have to run any particular tire size on an open wheeled car?

I cleaned pistons last nite, before snow-blowing. Then went to put my rings on. . .
I got the wrong ones! The two oil rings are too tall, they don't fit in the grooves, what the crap!

  5. Just to level it out- not a big deal I guess, but would make running 4.5s on the front harder.

I have 6.00s for the front and want 7.50s for a little "rubber rake"

Your motor is a 1941 Mercury block. It has the raised area where the intake bolts on. The round hole between the two trapezoid holes in the block let you know it is Mercury or big truck motor.

Been working long hours lately but was able to get a couple things done. Working at a power plant has it's benefits; i had two wheels and four drums sandblasted. They have a lathe here and they cut my drums too! I didn't even ask but they cut them and they came out great. Thanx I.S.S. 1489415561851.jpg 1489415580409.jpg

I was given a wide 5 if you're ever in the need for a spare ... it would look great mounted off the deck lid

Finally had a weekend off so into the hideout i go. Had to do some more welding and fine tuning of the steering set up. Awhile back I mated an old steering ball with a new arm. I needed to make it look less un-cool 1489966409442.jpg 1489966421055.jpg had to get new bolts to mount it, no fine thread stuff in stock so I went to Aubuchon. 1489966531475.jpg once the steering arm was on I resized the drag link and welded it up

The one end of drag link is bent a little so it's making the trip to work tmrw for a bit of blue wrench tweaking then primer and paint. I also scraped 70 some years of gunk off the oil pan. Nasty shit. It is also going to work for some time in a parts washer. Small accomplishments but moving in the right direction 1489967069269.jpg 1489967081517.jpg been collecting shells, which do you guys like?

The steering arm is absolutely a stunner. I'll be stealing that idea in the future without a doubt. Well done buddy.

  26. Been meaning to ask you- since we are basically running the same pedals, where are you putting the gas pedal? I am finding it hard to squeeze in because the trans is blocking where I want to put it. Maybe under the brake pedal???

I have been pondering that for awhile. My right foot is "happiest" over the transmission, so that is where it's going. Next to brake pedal and about halfway up the side of trans bell. Do you have any gas pedal parts?

  28. Good to know- I will try that out. I was lucky enough that about a half year ago I scored a 40 spoon pedal that was complete off eBay for 20 bucks shipped to my door. Going to use stock model a throttle/ spark advance rods for actuation. But I happen to need those!

My compliments on your body build, Excellent. I like your photos of your master cyl. push rod. Check on Going Full Circle on page 2 and I posted a story where my friend did not check his engineering as close as you.Serious at the time but a lesion in thinking and a lot of laughing in the later years. I got in on the tail end of the era you are replicating some thing like 1945 to 1955 or so. My brother had a 29 roadster very much like yours. 59 AB 46-48 rear 2 carbs and straight pipes. That was about 1952 I was 10 at the time and did not enjoy helping a bit, would rather go fishing, but by 14 I was in full swing of learning all I could.

Me and Mike went to Clyde's swap meet in Maynard, Ma. I picked up a gas pedal assembly. It is basically a start because it is too wide and one end is facing the wrong way but Flaven said "just chop it here and hack that off. . ." I also got a couple radiator hoses, rain gutter corners, and a couple shiney goodies. I got a couple hours in the garage. I put the engine back in to see if it fits w/the crank, starter, etc. Well I had to cut the crossmember abit 1490578035074.jpg 1490578042378.jpg
