I got some pm requests for pics and info on my rpu so i figured it'd be easier to just start a post. So... it's a 28/29 on 32 rails, it's got a 34 rear crossmember, 32 center and a model a front crossmember. Original model b rear with 3.78 gears, model b transmission. The motor is a model B banger with a cragar overhead conversion. The motor was built by Ora at shwalms babbitted bearings in PA, internally it has crower h-beam rods, ross pistons, insert bearings, the oil passages have all been opened up for full pressure oiling, the oil system is from dan price as is the head. Warning, the head is by no means a bolt on and dan price has never had one run himself so... purchase at your own risk! seriously there is alot of machine work that needs to be done to the water pump because the pulleys don't line up and his valve adjustment is way off. Oh and also the rockers need to be clearenced as they make contact with the spring retainers. The exhaust is a custom 3 inch spin tech oval pipe made by chris schellberg. The motor is supposed to make about 130 to 140 hp but I've never had it on a dyno, though it is faster than my fathers 32' roadster with a souped up flatty. The wheels kh bent spokes, the rear wheels are widened 2 inches on the back (stockton wheel) to fit the dirt tracks. The widshield is a hallock by steve sellers. The interior was done by fellow hamb'r shawn appleman long distance, we made the patterns in new york shipped them to shawn and he stiched them up. Shawns work is great everything lined up perfectly and he's never seen the car! This is the only way I know how to put these photos up.. I hope it works... sorry there not the best photos but it's all i've got for now. Maybe someone who nows what there doing could post them so you dont have to click the link? http://www2.snapfish.com/share/p=715191182269989927/l=275664576/g=60271950/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB
Hey Phil...been meanin' to e-mail ya back. The RPU turned out fantastic! Gotta say you've nailed the look.... and, who says long distance relationships never work out...LOL! Congrats on gettin' some ink as well...
I agree, definitely a Wow! What I like is that it has the right look - like it just came through a time warp - or off the cover of a early Hot Rod magazine (late 40's, early 50's)
Gawdamn!! That is one of the coolest RPUs I've ever seen. Everything works so well together - from the tires, to the windshield, to the engine... KILLER!! Malcolm
I agree! A terrific car. One of the tricks to nailing the early look is to have the axle, headlights and grille on the same centreline. So many guys miss this seemingly simple trick, and yet it's so important. Amazing to see a banger pumping hp like that! Congratulations.
Thanks, I remember... I like the 999 myself. Can't remember if we got a chance to chat or not though. Not that many people notice that... it's a '32 box with '36 internals which allows the pitman arm to point up.. I had to do that because of the hairpin. I like that better than bending the shit out of the pitman arm to go around the hairpin. Also the ratio is better than a '32 so it steers pretty nice. Just a little traditional trick..ha ha Thanks for the compliments guys! I appreciate it. Sorry I dont have any better interior shots shawn.. I'll get some.
From the pics i'd have to say its one of the best, if not the best one i've seen yet! Super sanitary and perfect proportions.. NICE job! Tony
