i have been super busy the past couple months with traveling. went to speedweek only to get rained out, then home for a week then to WI to teach at Baileigh class, back home for a week then back to WI to do a week pro build at RMD, back home for a few days before i was supposed to head back to bonneville and it got rained out again. so needless to say my schedule has been all screwy lol. here are some minor updated on things i worked on in between everything else. not in any time line order

these hudson terriplane fenders came in to get straightened out from a front end collision, we will start with the pass. fender

starting to knock things back into place

added a little dykem to make it easier to see the lows after running a file over it

after some hammering and dollying. still have a few led spots to melt out and work, and a crack in the edge

found a hole and crack under some led at the broken part of the rolled edge

    pass. fender finished up

now for the run one. didnt get any pics before but it looked pretty much like the pass. side until i dig in

everything in the black area is 3/8 thick lead

    after melting out the lead

same process as other side, used some dykem to aid in seeing the lows, and a ton of hammer and dolly work

    starting to look like something

just needs a little shrinking with a shrinking disc

both fender finished up and ready to go back to the body shop. they are not perfect but nothing a light skim coat and some primer cant fix

also straightened up the grill shell for the car

made some progress on the 57 retractable
, got the quarter welded up and it had some really bad warping we could not control, so i cut it back off under the trim so i could hammer and dolly the lower weld seam back out

    quarter back on

pulling old damage out of the doors

  9. Damn dude. Just found your thread. If you didn't get me in 13 pages....the 14th sure did me in. I love your welds. Everyone claims welding is an art.....but most have never seen the art in welding itself. Nice weld flourishes up there ^^^^^^^^^. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so today i worked on my buddies RPU some. he wanted to add a 32 cowl vent to his cowl top. so i went to work on it

trimmed out the vent from brookeville

made a card board pattern of the shape of the panel, and a negative cut out of the vent to make sure i get it where i want it

    scribed the cut line

    all tig welded up

after some filing, hammering and dollying. and a trip through the planisher it is getting pretty close

    and installed on the car

then moved on to putting on extended cab corners

    stock corners

    stockers removed

old rear pan taken out and extended rear pan installed

    new sides clamped on

cut the old rear panel off from the sides, going to but weld them back on instead of flanged so they can be metal finished after welding

thanks guys, positive feed back always helps motivate me. it is easy to get over whelmed with everything going on when it is just me in the shop trying to work on everything lol

a little more progress on the RPU. reversed the fire wall and re shaped the bottom of it. wanted to make it look like it was made this way. not perfect but turned out pretty good

here is where i flipped the fire wall, making patches and patterns to smooth out the bottom of it

    all patched and smoothed out

here is the back side with a new flange to make mounting the floor easier and a more factory look

and clamped in the car. just need to spot weld to the sides, weld along the bottom, and drill holes for mounting screws at the top

    You metal skills are insane.
But just curious why reverse furewall if you're doing all the recess & rework on lower?
Can't see in pic how much room was gained & I'm not negatively judging your work. I've just been lookin for ways to make room on my own & im so close I think I can almost hammer & dolly distributor & round out bellhousing area without flipping firewall.

with it being on A rails the distributor was over half way through the fire wall, and i am not a fan of the triangle recess in fire walls. other cars in the past that have been on 32 rails i have just had to do minor recesses for the pass side head and distributor

Thnx, that makes sense, im on 32 rails, so I only needed an inch or or so in that pass side asymmetry.

only got to spend a couple hours on cool hot rod stuff today

started off by making a new floor pan for under the seat bottom. 18 gauge steel, pre stretched the areas the bead rolling would be done to keep it flat.

then made a cover panel for over the tail shaft of the trans. made from on piece ,no welding was done. still pretty rough, needs a lot of finish work but ran out of time for the day on this one
