    hot rodder's

watched this movie and it featured a Cobra

    rather nonchalantly.

an officer gets in it and starts it up and

    pulls off in it.

which is right on the money.

that would be who bought a Cobra in '63-64.

somebody with money looking to spend it

    on something cool.

it might just be the only movie showing a Cobra.

if you keep your eyes open they're also a

    'floating headlight' Chrysler product.

    have a nice day!

In the 60s during the Viet Nam War towns outside military bases everywhere in the States had at least one Sports Car dealership (British, Jags, A-H, MG, and others) and another selling American factory hotrods (GTOs, Big Block anything, Shelby Mustangs etc.) in used and sometimes new cars as well. Many of these cars were bought by Officers, Non-coms, and enlisted men then when they shipped out the payment book and paperwork were passed on to another GI who may or may not make the the payments. It was truly amazing the fabulous mix of quality hot cars that were bought, sold, traded in those years in and around military bases.

Elvis didn't crash a Cobra, at least not into the water. The crash scene used a stunt double. It was a "Mistral", based on an Austin-Healey:

In the "Tammy" TV show one of her suitors drove a 427. My earliest cobra memory.
And don't forget "The Killers" which featured a black 289 and a speed crazed Angie dickinson.

When I was in Nam, you could buy any new car you wanted at the base PX for a payment every month. If you lived, you could pick up your new car at any dealership when you got back to the States. There was a woman sales person at our base, we called Mustang Sally. One of my friends bought rolex seahorse and a 68 Porshe Targa, picked it up in LA and drove it home to Wisconson. I got a Nova 350 SS and some sharp taylor made suits and shoes. (the woman go crazy for a sharp dressed man!)ZZ Tops

  22. This movie is available for instant viewing if you have NETFLIX. I recently watched it ... some pretty good old Nascar footage. Spoiler alert .. They actually put the Daytona coupe in a ditch for one scene!

Remember Cobras only cost $1000 more than the equivalent Corvette.

  27. Not quite any car you wanted.
I couldn't wait to get to the car dealer tent and order my dream. A 1969 Dodge Daytona, Plum crazy purple with a white interior and a white vinyl top.
Hemi w/ a 4 speed. Got there and was told nope, can't get that.:( Offered me a purple Dart 440 w/ auto. Turned it down. What a dummy I was.

1969...the guy next door was a local fireman. He bought this used 289/Webers Cobra for $4,000 and we all were stunned at that kind of money for a used car.
    Here's a shot with my Model A.
While hindsight is one thing, the reality was another. That still was a lot of money and nobody would have ever guessed that these would be so valuable today.
This fireman guy bought and sold a Mangusta, the Cobra, a black 427 Cobra, a few 1960's Maseratis, etc. for chump change back in those days.
    Nobody would have ever imagined.
My Dad and I went to a dealership in Long Beach in 1967 and looked at a new 427 Cobra on the showroom which was $7,000....THAT was a ton of dough.
Even in the early 1970's a friend and I went to a Fiat dealership in Monrovia and looked at a brand new Ferrari Daytona coupe that was $23,000.
Geez.....you could buy a house with a pool for that.
