I'd like to see pics of the cars in order to offer a more "educated" opinion. Personally, I'd want an old Ford coupe over the Porsche, but also consider the source. As someone else said, ask the same question on a Porsche website and I'm sure the replies would be biased there as well.

You'll be better off with a Hot Rod than a re-bodied Volkswagon any day!

Sure do...........but have also noticed most who say it are jealous losers.

If you like superb build quality, handling and performance you'll probably miss your Porsche but if you are after a differant type of motoring experiance you will have made the right call. Only you know the answer.

  8. Over my long and adventurious life I have owned a bunch of cars. Including 3 Porsches, a Vette, a couple of VWs and a succession of pickup trucks. Of all, I have had the most fun with the 31 Model A coupe I bought in 58 and the 32 Ford roadster that I drive now. A lot of things contribute to that. First, I think, is that hot rods are really "yours" and the are relatively easy to work on. And certainly not fragile. But the most inportant thing about hot rods are the people and the friendships that come along for the ride.

Only Fags say James Dean was Gay,because if you were to speak to any one who actually knew the man you would know that the night before he was killed he was in actual fact fucking Natalie Woods....and that morining had sent a letter to his.....Girl Friend! . Not the behavior one would expect from an ass bandit and cock sucker is it? it's about time these aids promoting dills were outed for promoting one the worst lies to ever come out of holly wood.

  11. If you have to ask..... Okay, I'll be nice. build the HOTROD! If you miss the wind in your hair feeling of the 356,build a roadster! As been said before, porsche reactions = "rich dude" or "kit car". Hotrod reactions = "wow! cool car, man"

    The only car I'd sell my 1953 356 pre-A coupe for (when I finally get one :D ) would be a 33-34 3 window...

But the 60s 356s don't really do it for me so you did good if that's what you got rid of...

I guess there are lots of different 356s and lots of different 35-36s...

    Although i do dig 35 Ford's, i Love Porsches..Had an older 911sc year's ago...but ALWAYS wanted a 356...or my favorite...550 Spyder..(yeah like i'd ever afford one of those!)
Anyway, if i personally had to choose, i'd take the 356..
    Sorry..

Man, that is tough. I love Porsches, and a 35 is my favorite Ford ever.

I guess it's all in your current frame of mind. I can't even compare those cars, as they are too different and equally timeless.

I would imagine that for what you sold the Porsche for, you could get a really nice 35. That being the case, if you don't enjoy the Ford, sell it and buy a Porsche.

Whatever floats your boat dude...you can always go back, but I bet you wont.

  18. I sold my 1954 356 Speedster #80067 and put down some of the profits to buy a house..., traveled around the world a bit...., bought a 1946 Century Wood boat and a Model A Roadster.

Worth selling for a Hot Rod...??? Yep....!!!!!!

I can totally relate to Bibs story as well...!

I wouldn't take the Porsche on trips because every mile on the odometer was detrimental to the value of the car... where as my most of the miles I put on a Hot Rod is irrelevant to the value and receives more positive response than I received in any of my sports cars...!

That's O.K. Tony... until you've owned one of those ill handling, under horse powered, over glorified VW's you just wouldn't understand...!

I love the looks of 356's and the 550 Spiders but I'd own the faster kit versions with the faster more modern Porsche engines that can be bought for $15,000 to $48,000...!!!

There are a lot of closet foreign car lovers here on the HAMB. You'll see soon I'm sure as my post gets replied to...

    ...that being said:

I would never regret trading one of those overrated Volkswagen-in-heat POS's for Americian Iron. YOU DID GOOD.

The 35-36 Fords are the most beautiful cars/trucks ever built in my opinion. More so than a 32 Ford......I can say, that I have both.

I like 'em both....alot. Where's the pictures of what you're working with here?!

A silver 356 coupe with no bumpers or caps sat down a bit with a healthy motor excites me a lot. Just about any '35 would make me a pretty happy guy too.

Sorry, as usual, little to no help.

Try a search here, for an image of the '35-'36 roadster that Dave Simard has been working on lately. You'll have your answer! :p

  27. just depends on whether you like gold/porsche, or lead/ford. While lead might help you fix the ford, gold will let you drive the porsche.

  28. HELL YES!,id give my left arm for a 35/36 ford coupe

In my opinion I think you did the right thing.I say drive the 35,have fun and never look back on the deal as being a negative! I also agree that if you just can't seem to get over it then get a replica for a lot cheaper and drive the hell out of it! Personally I would love to have a nice 35 in the garage! And if the STOCK MARKET ever gets just right I might own one! LOL

  30. A few yrs. ago I sold a 66 Vette that I Frame off restored mechanically,,,,,but still needed paint & chrome. After driving it for 3 yrs I finally got sick of people asking me when I was going to paint it,when It looked fine to me from the drivers seat. I sold it and bought a perfect one owner low mi .911SC all inside of a week .
I still ask myself the same question once in a while but know I did the best thing as the vette was a pig compared to the Porsche.
Now I sold a nice Harley I built last winter to fund my '30' rdstr on "32"rails .I will just have to build it myself.
You will know that you did the right thing as time goes on.But you will always have second thoughts. I still do on occation even after 3 yrs.
Just try to remember any of the faults the 356 may have had and you'll feel better.
