Just an update on the Galaxie progress.

The frame now rolls, all powder coated black, with cal tracs, and 7 pac rear springs. HD front, and all rebuilt suspension. I did add disc brakes from a 79 T-bird.
Rear is a F-150 Banjo, narrowed and braced, with 31 spline Moser shafts, with a 4.56 spooled N case.

Big Spline Top Loader, all fresh, but has to come apart for a 2.54 first gear, from David Kee.

Body is getting some more love.

Awesome... It looks like you'll drive this on the street, too, right?

Any pics of the engine? Have you done anything to it, or is it 'stock'?

    Thanks, Malcomb.
Yep, she is a street car.
Cammer is in Earl Wade's hands right now, close to the dyno.
We warmed her up a bit, with a 4.125 billet crank, crower rods based in BBC bearings, some cam timing, and the gear drive on the small chain. Should be a good time.
Thanks also Red, I am looking forward to mashing the gas, too. It's been a long time!

    Crashnburns,
Just looking for a cool old car, not the best. I am way to broke to play that game!
    How is windy Wyo, today?
    Windy down here.
    Thanks for the kind words,

  8. The SOHC is one of my favorite engines. Too bad it didn't get better developed.

VAPHEAD, you were eyeing the 32 Ford truck I sold a while ago.... Car was here, but I don't think you ever saw her.

Ask the wife, she might kill me for the insurance, and cut you a deal!
    Eric

I wish the cammers were better developed, too. With the aftermarket cammer stuff, I bet there will be an uprising of cammers every where.

Cool thing, my block/heads and other parts, are Real Ford.
    crank/rods/pistons.... not so much!

  10. Sounds like a great project. Are you sure those shocks will work upside down? If they are Rancho 9000s from Calvert they are oil filled. Not sure if that will work.

    Shocks are 9000's. Good eye!
They work fine upside down, we used to mount them that way, often on Early Bronco's we built.

I have had this car, sitting, way to long, but now I got to finish her up.

factory Muscle cars as they're called back then. GTO's etc were slugs:)
Cammers have their own sound. You will have fun for sure

I'd like to know who owns that Merc.... What a nice ride. A single 4 sure sounds nasty, but the dual 4's calm them down a bit.

That Ranchero is sure a good looking ride, What are some stats on that one?

Got to love the timing chain, how long is it?

Best looking motor hands down, ever......

  17. SWEET!! I remember riding in Kong Jacksons 427 Galaxi in the late 70's.. I loved the sound of that car.. I am building a 64 post car.. a little different but I am thinking it will be a fun ride when it's done.. I'm running a mild/built 460 with a gm 700r4 into a currie 9 inch with 390's.. i have the cal-traks set up and aerospace components 12 inch disk brakes on all four corners.. .. its going to be a cruiser with vintage air, tilt and a bunch of other creature comforts.. 001_1.JPG

  18. I had a cammer in my gas dragster in 1976.

    TUMBLEWEED,
Your 64 is looking great. I like those post cars.
I am a FE guy at heart, but there are sure some nasty
    385's out there.

Glad to see there is still some love for the heavy girls out there.

My dad works at a high-end restoration shop. My favorite car in the whole place is this basic '64 Custom 300 sedan, bright red with bright red interior. It has 10" wide (old) Torq Thrusts in the back and 4" up front. Thunderbolt hood scoop. And a monster stroked SOHC under the scoop. :D It's just the baddest car I have ever seen. It sounds amazing. Your car is looking just phenomenal man, really REALLY nice work there.

    Thanks GotGas,
Was the car at your Dads shop the one from Los Gatos Ferrari? sp
If it's the same one, that is a bad ass car. I can't understand why no one bought that monster. I know what it costs to do this, and that car sure looks perfect.
Do you know any details about the engine?

I've had the Ranchero a long time. Raced it for years with a 427. Ran 11:60's at 3900 lbs. Now it's a 429 street car. Still runs good.
    Thanks for asking, Ron:)

    I'm not sure.

As far as I know, the car was built - garage built to an incredible standard I might add - in north Texas. It was still here as of a week ago, but I heard it was trailered to Georgia to a consignment place. I am very weak on the details of the engine, sorry, but it sounded very healthy and was supposedly close to 500". It had dual fours and Thunderbolt-style ducting from the inboard headlights. Also a four-speed, forgot to mention that. I will try to find a few pictures of it tonight.

  25. I always followed Pete Robinson's (RIP) SOHC dragster. Great looking car and not a HEMI.

Don't forget that Kalitta and Prudhomme ran them too!

  27. That's right. I forgot about that. The 60's were a great time in drag racing.

Lots of big name racers, but think of all the old street cars with cammers?
I know around Colorado, there are 6 other cammers, and 4 cars coming together.

I'm not sure that Los Gatos Ferrari has ever had a cammer. "Autohaus Los Gatos" has had several cammer motors and cars w/cammer motors that have been offered for sale on eBay. They're 2 different dealers. Brian Burnett, who owned Ferrari of Los Gatos, owned "Deucari", a '32 roadster built in 1979 by Dick "Magoo" Megugorac with an all aluminum V12 Ferrari motor.
