I miss lacquer; I thought you could't buy it anymore? We used to have a guy in New York paint our race cars, Bob Hall, and he could lay it on without needing to buff it.
    You did good!

Hopefully you don't live anywhere with large temperature differentials, that paint will start shrinking/cracking in no time.

Looks like it layed down nicely... Is it lacquer clear or Eurethane? Who made the clear?. How long did you let the lacquer gas-out before applying the clear?

    Sorry for all the questions...

  16. I have had lacquer last 20 years on cars that have seen all kinds of temperature shifts. It will probably eventually show cracks, but not any time soon I would bet.
Why be the guy with the negative post?

The painter forgot! Kidding, the car is full fendered and it is going to be painted with undercoat/paint.

I've probably spray a few thousand gallons of lacquer over the years with very few problems. And pretty much all of those could be attributed to:

Not allowing the material to dry thoroughly enough between coats.

Laying on too much material, including clear lacquer, over the top of a lacquer base.

Clearing with a catalyzed product before the lacquer is completely dry......

Primer on too thick and not properly gassed-out.

All these problems are the same root cause.... Trapped solvents and/or too much material thickness.

If used correctly, lacquer will last a long, long time.

That looks very nice. Laquer is still out there if you look for it, but it aint cheap anymore that for sure.

Also would like to know what clear you used.

  20. That's okay for a base..will you be painting satin black over that? Looks great..like the color.

Thanks Rich! I see a lot of misinformation posted about lacquer and it's good to see that there is always someone on the HAMB that knows the bottom line.

Looks great ,By the way Hibernia sells laquer paint .Look it up in Hemmings motor news.....Nothing wrong with laquer as long as you dont use a car cover ,Ill explain If the cover gets wet ,It traps the moisture in .My dads 34 Ford is holding up great since 76 .Keeping it waxed helps .His roof cracked in some areas ,Due to a moisture problem when he had it in storage .Other than that its perfect.

We used the PPG line, custom color mixed by the painter (honduras + gold flake)

Jeez - now you tell me!

Spread around so-cal. Trying to find all the pieces before the GNRS.
