we got some killer fabricators on here....lets see some of your fabbed chassis and frame work(no certain car, etc)...Just wanna see some cool ideas...if theres another post...add the link...thanks.
dont know if this is what your looking for or not....but heres some ideas for doing a model-T era frame and getting it lower Zach
Here's mine.....Will be getting a newly painted 4" chopped 30' sedan body wrapped around it in a few weeks.
thats gotta be pretty weak, especially considering he ground down the weld on that outside corner joint. You end up with an effective thickness there of only around 1/4"...... Not something i'd like to ride in.....
You should see some of his other stuff, the guy's an ace! That's probably just how it was done way back when.
zach knows his shit fellers. . . trust me. here's a couple shots of the back of my willys. . . i have an affection for Watts links, what kin i say. they aint the easiest centering device, but the look cant be beat IMHO
Here's a couple straight from the TECH archive: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87556 Not fabbbed completely from scratch, but very cool- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103232 The photos on this one are real big and have to be scrolled back and forth, otherwise pretty good- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11882&&showall=1 Some good theory- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206&&showall=1 May want to search through all of Dodgerodder's threads- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84507 And my all-time favorite-Littleman! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104568
Here is the chasis I am currently working on, I think some of you have seen pics of it in the past. Bob Hindman (yeah that bob Hindman) built it, so I can not take any of the credit.
hey guys, thanks for the compliments unfortunately i didnt build the T sprint car i just took the pictures of it at hershey last year the metod which he used is actually an old trick though...i think if i were building it i woulda put a little more of a gusset at the top where it kicks out to the "U" bolts...i think thats all bent though and not welded and its about 3/8" thick it appears.... i think possibly it was heated and bent in a vice or something with a sharp edge which caused the sharper inside corner? plus you figure a T motor set back isnt putting alot of weight on it my concern for failure would be from the constant twisting from the sides while running a dirt track...causing a stress crack on that inside "kink" Zach
if you're talkin about the 4 bar brackets to the underside of the crossmember. . . in-experiance with a 4-bar, and plain dumb ass move. . . THAT bracket is why the thing was NOT at the HAMB drags my friend live and learn is the name of the game
pretty ghetto but heres mine... the one good thing about this frame is Keith (leadsledmerc) let me use his super secret plans from his C-Dan build for my frame...
I am thinkin you guys got a little to add here...Only things I have done so far do not fit here. But I am working on that....
heres my low buck chassis.... tac'd with flux core.. about to be tig'd together.... spent 4x as much on the fricken welder than i have on materials!
