i saw a very 2d power hammer sculpture and i thought maybe i can make a functional one. i build tattoo machines as part of my job, so i based the design off of the same type of motor. here goes. i first made the main body from scrap, and made a jig to weld it all up.

then i set about making the dies

i put everything together ,then made a fixture to weld the stand onto the sides of the stand which are bolted to the frame

the water is for preventing fires when using wood for fixtures!

here are the coils. 1018 cores wrapped in electromagnetic wire, theres a certain winding number and technique for this, i made these from scratch. no pics.trade secrets! and then there's a gutshot of the inner frame.

i took the finished hammer over to thun field rod and custom. josh over there made these killer foam models of his cyclecar projects, so we beat up some thin aluminum and it worked well. really well! we had to turn it down a bunch to planish. i'm pretty sure this will work with 1/16th aluminum no problem. tonight i made some beading dies and thumbnail shrinking dies from brass lamp screws.[IMG]
[IMG] i'll update this thread with a video once i get my dies done and working right. i have a duece roadster model my 3 year old son dismantled thats screaming for some love!

  6. First, that's a fantastic idea, and great craftsmanship!

Second, that ain't no cyclecar- that's a model of Chevrolet's Monroe Special (and I'd LOVE to see it when you're done):D!!!

The OP should have this thread forwarded to a Tech-Week contender.

Why would I need an e-wheel? So I guess the beading dies work pretty well!

:D Outstanding craftsmanship.Just out of curiousity, are you going to apply for a patent?Save getting the design ripped off.Copy right too would be good.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

Thank you ! I did this purely for fun, all the tech I used already exists, I cant really see going to the lengths to produce these. I will leave the tool and die making to the pros. besides, I already have a bunch of different ideas for improvements! This was a pleasant distraction from my project, and I'm really glad to see people dig it.

    Good stuff.
The coils look identical to antique Bell Telephone ringer coils.
    They are extremely powerful.
