This was before "The Red Hat' Club,, milestones then were 100 mph, yet we see a 200+ mph record at only the second SpeedWeek,,, But look at what happened this year,,, Blue has become the new Red,,,, I believe we have reached a new milestone to gauge the future of land speed. 400 is now 'doable' for racers that are not Country and Corporate sponsored.
Dean Batchelor wrote the definitive book on our hobby, THE AMERICAN HOT ROD. Dean was also the long time editor of ROAD & TRACK magazine. A genuine car guy, Dean ended his career as the historian/librarian for the Harrarh's collection. Used to see him a couple times a month at the R&T offices in Newport Beach and he was always very reluctant to talk about the early days at Bonneville and at So-Cal with Alex.
Jive-Bomber, you posted that the So-Cal liner was the first to break 200 mph at the 1950 Bonneville Nationals. I was always under the impression that the Kenz & Leslie 777 liner was the first to reach 200. Admittedly So-Cal ran the fastest time of the meet, but I believe K&L was first. Mick
