So Cal HAMB BBQ-Open House at my Wrecking Yard 3/24/07

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by desertratrodder, Feb 14, 2007.

  1. Everyone here is invited to my 1st HAMB bbq/ open house/ car show/ get together. Set for March 24, a Saturday, 10AM-5 or 6pm?.

Rain date the 31st. Plenty of old cars to check out in the yard, eat some good BBQ, and do some bullshitting as well.

We will definitely be having an import sledge smash, and possibly a small demo derby. That all depends on how many shitboxes I have that run. The food will be going most of the day, you can drink beer, etc, but be good.
Let me know who is coming so I can order more porta shitters, and we may need some BBQ's brought out. any help with food, etc will be appreciated. BYOB.

If any bands want to play, we may have to run off generators for anything serious. I'm not doing this to sell parts. But if you want to bring your tools and buy something, I'm not going to stop you.

I'm right around the corner from LA County Raceway, the place where Antique Nats and Rat Fink are held.

    Let's get this thing going!

  4. DAMN I WISH I WERE OUT WEST SOME TIMES!! I never hear of anything like this happenening around here. (South Texas) My wife has half way agreed to letting me start up a wrecking/salvage yard in the San Antonio area when we move up there sometime this year. It is something I have been wanting to do for some time, but I did not want to start it where I did not plan on spending the rest of my life. I hope it goes well, bc it sure sounds like a hell of a good time will be had there. Since our trip to Honduras has been canceled, we are going to try to make the Lonestar Roundup end of march here in Texas. We will be spectating this time around but by next years, we should have the A ready :)

Anyone in Texas know of cool get togethers like this here or Wrench-A-Thons(as we used to call them in the 4x4 world)? I would love to find more guys closer to me that do this kind of stuff.

Just to give a heads up, I've met Ray and been to his yard. He does have some early stuff that he saved from the crusher at another yard, and even though we didn't strike a deal on a car that day he was very gracious as we walked the yard and checked out all his treasures. This sounds like a good time to me, and I plan on coming Ray and checking that 53 Capri again. Mike.

  7. Will the 428 be available then?

  8. Hey, Ray! Is that the Lacey's wrecking yard? Lots of good memories from the early sixties for me. I do hope to get out there.

  9. Chili, I dont know about Laceys.. Right now it is behind Jones wrecking, and I believe it was Antelope Valley Central Wrecking in the 60's.

Yard opened in 1952. I have some of the cars they had in the 60's.

    Just sold one last week.

  10. OK, I hear that Jones' is the old Lacey's. Back in the sixties I believe it was all one yard. Is the Sun Village Inn & BBQ still in business? I saw T-Bone Walker there in 1962. I was 16 and had snuck in. Hooked me on the blues for life, man.

  11. No, The inn is something else now, if it is even still around.

you need to come up for this event.

I'm in Ray. If I can wrap up the car at work so I can get Saturdays off again I'll pitch in some help. Hope to have it done mid March. I'll be there for the BBQ either way.

Now, I wont be there but I just have to say that a get together at a wrecking yard is about the best idea I think I've ever heard of. What you have planned sounds like a real blast, hope you get a good turn out.

Reminds me of the old engine fire-up at the Gold King mine in Jerome Arizona. Car shows at locations with 'neat old stuff' to go look at is the best.

    I'll second that,
A friend of mine bought a Tudor from him and he was very cool! Even ran into him again at Pamona and he remembered me.

Us Long Beach guys will try and make it!

This is starting to sound like the "go to" event of march.
    I wanna race, too.

...Kansas is so far from.... everywhere.

  26. Before things get out of hand, I do not have a dirt track available IN my yard. Theres plenty of empty desert though.

The demo will be small but effective. I need to get some running cars set aside. The sledge smash is for sure. Please some of you bring a few more hammers and some safety glasses.

There is a large area for parking. It will be a little dusty.

Alot of people seem interested, I need to know sooner than later who may come as I need to plan for the poopy boxes, and a few other things.
