Hey!! Trying to remove a snap ring from the 5th gear assembly on a T-5 WC transmission. The snap ring is pretty stout, the hole in the ring is a #44 drill bit. the snap ring pliers(knipex) I have say 40mm to 100mm(to big to fit in hole)is that the size of the holes on the pliers? If so I need to look for smaller mm!,is that how the pliers are sized? Thanks Pete
That's the snap ring shaft or bore sizes those pliers are made to work with. A standard snap ring of a given size will have standard size holes across all manufacturers. 40mm is slightly bigger than 1.5" and 100mm is right at 4". If the tips on your pliers won't fit in the holes then the snap ring is either smaller than 40mm or its a special with non standard holes. Either way, you need smaller pliers or pliers with interchangeable tips.
that looks like a pretty serious snap ring... I think the reversible Blue Point snap ring pliers I have would work on it, but I'm not sure. Time to go shopping...have fun! the pliers with removable pins are not as strong as those with dedicated pins. Also, crappy made in China pliers are not what you are looking for, they bend
Yes!! My little girly hands hurt!! The smallest Knipex I found are 3mm to 10mm. I think the 3 mm is to large for the #44 bit? Pete
Think I found them!! Thanks! Pete http://www.amazon.com/46-11-G0-External-Snap-Ring/dp/B005EXO2JI/ref=sr_1_10?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1421077552&sr=1-10&keywords=1mm snapring pliers
Those are tiny pliers you're looking at on amazon. Snap ring pliers are sized by shaft size and not by the size of the holes used to install and remove the rings http://www.amazon.com/Knipex-4611A2..._sbs_hi_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=10N6CH2Z2VS58ZAANADG fits external rings from 3/4" to about 2 1/2" diameter. Should cover anything in that transmission.
Of the various snap ring pliers I have the ChannelLock #927 are the most versatile as they come with interchangeable tips as well as extra set screws to replace the ones you will drop on the driveway and never see again regardless how many hours you crawl around on the ground looking for them..
