Block casting number 3914678. I come up with 1968 302,327 or 350. Pad stamp number, V0620HT I come up with Flint engine plant, June 20th.and the HT comes up 65 thru 67 Vette 327 350 horse or 69 350 full size. Other pad stamp number is 18S423700 and i cant find no info there. The engine has pop up pistons. Just trying to figure out what it is. I have included pictures. Thanks in advance..... 20180902_142915.jpg 20180902_142713.jpg 20180902_142710.jpg

yes, but I have not found a way to decode it, that makes any sense....

  7. Its a 1969 350 255hp manual trans.
327,350,302 are all 4" bore blocks so they all could use that casting number
67 back are small journal and no 350s so the HT code is for the 69 350

18S.... means 1968 Vette (S means built in St Louis).

congrats, you actually have a Vette motor!

An actual Corvette motor! HT for 1968 is a 327 350 hp...L79. That casting number block ending in 678 was only used in 1968. The vin number starting as 18S...the 1 is for Chevrolet...the 8 is for 1968..and the S is for St. Louis MO...where they built Corvettes. The 423700 number is the sequential build of the car...for Corvettes in 1968 they started numbering with 400000...so this engine came out of the 23,700th Corvette built in 1968...its a fairly late motor. Went back and looked at the pic of the engine code..V0620HT...V for Flint Michigan where the engine was assembled...0620..June 20th...so it is a late motor..buy it!

From the pics looks like it doesn't have camel hump heads? It should have
    ..casting number ending 291...

the 1 would be big 2 door sedan or impala custom, the 8 would be year 1968, the S is built in St Louis.
the last six are actual serial sequence of car.

I've searched and can't find this information. I get the date codes, casting numbers, etc., etc., but nothing for a partial VIN past the first three characters. Care to share?

I dont know if the heads on it belong to it. They were just on with a couple bolts. It has a anson bell housing, missing the lower cover. Has what apears to be a Saginaw 4 speed with a modified vette shifter. Now the big question? What is it worth? It is out of a old drag car and had a hilborn injection on it at one time.....

    Affirmative
I have a pair of NOS "291" heads, the box said 1968 Corvette initial stock, the last year of true camel hump castings.

partial VIN....find a place that decodes complete VINs, then realize that the partial VIN is

    Carline (1 = Chevrolet car, 2 = Pontiac, C =Chevy Truck, etc)

    Year (8 = 1968 or 1978, B = 1981, etc)

    Asembly Plant (F =Flint, Z = Fremont, J =Janesville, etc)

Penetrator....I've gleaned most of my knowledge from Alan Colvins "Chevrolet by the Numbers" series of books. I assume you mean you cant find info on the sequential numbering? It's in those books.

I agree...it kind of bugs me when people call the 1969 1970, 186, 492 heads, camel humps.

He has a book for 1955-59, 1960-64, 1965-69 ( I dog eared that one) and 1970-75. He also has a Corvette by the numbers that goes all the way back to 1955 till 1982. All sorts of info in those books. Casting numbers..how to read dates..vin number breakdowns per years..etc.

Camel humps?....they look like boobs to me, but then again everything looks like boobs to me. By the way I have the engine and it ran in the Gold Rush drag sedan B Gas from 1966-1969 out of San Jose, it never could keep the front wheels on the ground
