Art & Inspiration Sitting and Rotting.............picture thread

  1. I get that crap growing on cars sometimes around here. If you pick up a car that has it, remove it. It seems to want to grow on other cars. A pressure washer usually takes care of it.

That mansion is badass! I love abandoned houses. Just went through one last week and found a bunch of stuff from the 20's and 30's. Mostly unsent postcards and newpapers.

The mansion is called' Mintaro' and is a smaller scale 'replica' of Melbourne's Government House. Although it looks abandoned, it has actually always been lived in, just neglected. If you like abandoned stuff, maybe have a look at my photography blog (link in my signature).

Another from Melbourne, this one's obviously way, way too far gone to be saved but it'd make for a cool garden ornament? It sits alongside a busy South-Eastern freeway and only recently became visable due to a fire.

It's (was) an FB Holden ute, the only salvagable parts looked to be the tail light surrounds, it did make me wonder if there are any more cars sitting hidden in the bushland surrounding it. Only one way to find out...

    Thanks Wojojo.

38FordPickup - The pink and white one in the 6th photo down? It's a 1960 Hillman Minx.

  14. Was Hillman affiliated with Ford, or did Hillman just like the '55 Ford styling enough to copy it?

The grille does look like Ford, but Hillman at that point was styled by Raymond Loewy's design group and influenced by the contemporary Studebakers. Not easy to tell from that angle but look at the side view of one next to a mid-fifties Stude four-door and it shows.

  22. There's also a 58-60 Lincoln barely that's barely visible beyond the DeSoto in the photo.
Was it too dangerous to snap some photos of it?;)

There were a lot of British cars that had similarities with the american cars. Our cars seemed to be about 5 years or so behind you though. The second car down in the pics is a Humber Hawk and it has very similar styling to a 55 chevy . Pretty much all the major manufactures followed the American styling in some way or another.
