If there is an existing thread on this, I didn't find it and I think Nailheads are one of the coolest looking traditional engines. There are threads on SBC, BBC, Hemi, Y Block, SBF, FE, Flatheads and others but I didn't find one on Nailheads.

I happened to collect enough parts to assemble about 1 1/2 401's and I needed to get one assembled so it would take up less room and not rust. With help from @Bangingoldtin and the good folks at Centerville Auto Repair, I now have this one almost ready to go on my run stand. Some items need touch up paint but I will wait for warmer weather for that.

The plan, for now, is to fire it up now and then to keep everything lubricated until I build my 37 Packard Coupe. It will reside there, backed up by a 700R4. Until then, I need to finish my 34 Ford project after the weather gets a little more agreeable.

    So, show Us your Nailheads! PXL_20240108_151201931.jpg PXL_20240108_151145042.jpg PXL_20240108_151134562.jpg PXL_20240108_151054129.jpg PXL_20240108_151041395.jpg PXL_20240103_195243231.jpg

Those are Bendix Stromberg WW carbs. They were used on the '53 -'56 Studebakers with the real low hoods.

My '63 401 out of a Wildcat is a little less pretty than everybody else's. It's currently at the machine shop and slated to go into my '49 Merc. Hoping to use the six deuce log manifold I have for it & a Saginaw 4 speed. I also have a '65 425 from a Riviera that will hopefully someday reside in my '40 Ford deluxe coupe.

I have this 425 in my '33 pickup right now. It needs some sprucing up. I've got all the shiny stuff, I just need to decide what color everything will be and paint it. I've also got a runner 401 under the workbench, you know, just in case....

  13. I took a pic of this at Salina I believe in 2006. This is framed on my wall. My photo archives are huge and not real organized. :) DSC03818.JPG

Dang! Got everything loaded up, wired up, plumbed up, etc and started adding coolant, only to find I had stabbed a hole in the bottom radiator tank at some point. Nearest radiator shop is 30 minutes away. I believe I will wait until next Monday. My great grandmother used to say, "Just when you think you is, you ain't! " She was right.
