I want to own a delivery some day. Curious how many we have here on the Hamb. Included a before, after pic of my cousin's dad's delivery he sold not too long ago. Minus the american torq thrust, i really liked this car. Peace, Chevnut
These are both photoshops of mine I bought from Vance last July. It is sitting on top of an S10 frame right now but other projects take priority. I hope to get at it by summer.
Here's one that I found recently in a junkyard. It's not mine, yet, but may be soon. Sorry for the poor photo quality. The junkyard owner says its a 1940 (and he knows his 1940's... he has a 40 coupe rod that he built over 40 years ago). But, the grill is either a 39 Deluxe or a 40 Standard. As far as I can find, all 1940 SD's were Deluxe models, so it should have a 40 Deluxe front end. I'm not too familiar with 40's, so more research is in order. I'll be going to take a closer look at it in a couple of days. Price is right, but it will be a lot of work and I already have too many projects.
How 'bout my '47 Sedan Delivery . Still has straight axle, F-1 front brakes, SBC 350/Turbo 350 and 9" Ford rear end. It's my driver and parts hauler. I've had it about 4-5 years. MOST practical hot-rod I have .
Easiest way to tell a 39 from a 40 is the windshield wipers. 39 is above the glass and 40 comes out of the Cowell below the glass. The Wizzard
Ford did not make a Sedan Delivery in 39 that used the 39 Delux fenders. The back of the body had window indentations in the side like a 37 Sedan Delivery did. If that truck has smooth sides it is a 40.
It does have smooth sides. What grill did the 41 use? Maybe I should start a new thread on this. I don't want to hijack this one.
41 Sedan Deliveries used a 40 standard grille, with the larger hood nose like the 41 pickups did. I never knew the 40 SD's only came in deluxe models. I've seen plenty of standard model ones. Maybe they were all switched? (not likely). PS: 39 deluxe grilles were stamped steel bars, and 40/41 standard grilles were diecast bars. They look similar from a distance, but you can tell up close. But beware, there were some Argentina cheap repro 40 grilles made of stamped steel too. I guess the giveaway is, does it have a removable center peice about 6 inches wide? Then it's a 40/41.
Although more commonly referred too as a "Hearst"or"Nomad" its not a true delivery either, but I hope to play one at the Hamb Drags 07.
Here's what a factory built Pontiac sedan delivery should look like. It's a 56, one of less than 1600 ever built.
Here is mine - 1947 Chev Sedan Delivery. Purchased via the Hamb. Pic of when I first got it and as it is right now. I plan on a pretty simple look to it. Unsure on wheels, paint etc. I have put a c.e rear end kit and lowering blocks in the rear to get it down a little!
It's been awhile since I posted pic's of this '35 buried alive...it's still there and probably will be till someone digs it up.
I got more photos of the junkyard SD. 1. wipers are at base of windshield 2. grill has cast bars 3. flat sided According to my source book, which has proven reliable up till now at least, says that there were 5531 Model 01-A ('40) SDs built and that they were all STANDARD models. However, when I look thru my old mags and on the internet, all I find are DELUXE models (like Curbspeed's SD, above). Have they all been upgraded to Deluxe????
That's 1941 Sedan Delivery ONLY trim on the front of the hood. Most likely a '41, but everything other than that trim was identical to a '40. They did make '40 deliveries with the Deluxe nose as well- many documented originals exist. There was a REALLY nice original one at the LA Roadster show for sale a decade ago- still think about it. Just noticed those are '41 bumper guards on the front as well.
