I have been working on a 1930 Model A coupe. It started life as a sport coupe. The question is chop it or leave it be. I have been driving my avatar for more than 20 yrs and its small inside. Its hard to see traffic lights. My head has hit the roof on bad bumps. In other words, dont chop. If you do, a 2" chop would look good and wouldnt make it much smaller.

Your car, your call. Not original now. Also could I suggest some lonnger boxing plates to spread the load where you K-member is attached to frame rails. That flat bar is the weakest link in the chain as the torsional load needs to be spread over a larger area. I can see those tabs cracking and eventually tearing away from the top and bottom frame rails.

Only you know if you have room to sit in it comfortably with a chop. That said, I like the looks of it as is, or with a haircut.

I'm 5'8"...2 inches would be fine for me. You might be 6'2", I don't know.

Stare at this pic awhile. IMG_1415.JPG It just screams hot rod and in the traditional sense. Build it , drive it and enjoy. You can always alter later.

Add a period correct factory or aftermarket air cleaner for the finishing touch.

Thank you for the input, I have already corrected week ago before the body went back on the frame.

Years ago I was trying to decide whether or not to channel my 34 Chevy coupe. I'm 5'11" and my wife is rather long waisted. We were concerned about headroom. I was at a show and a guy drives in with the same year coupe that was channeled and he had a ton of room. I asked him if he would mind if I sat in it. He said OK. When he got out of the car the guy was about 5"4" tall. It wasn't a problem for him at all.

I channeled mine but had to lower the seats quite a bit for headroom. You might want to sit in some chopped cars before you make your decision.

    My 2 cents.

    BTW, nice project.

  20. I agree with this also. Try on a couple FIRST !

I thinks it screams HOT ROD they way it is... NICE build you got going the way it sits now.

But if you want to look like almost ALL the other coupes, Chop it

I don't prefer a chop. I like them tall but most cars look good with a chop. The 1930 Coupe looks good either way.

Do what you think needs to be done.

To really see how it would look chopped you must put the hood on. Otherwise, you eyes
focus mainly on only the top giving a false impression.

Back in the 70s, I owned a chopped, fenderless '30 coupe. Pretty much everyone chopped them. I really like the looks of yours unchopped. As others have said, drive it for a while unchopped. You can always chop it later. Nice car, BTW.
