I know this has been discussed before and I have read as many post about it as possible but I need a little more help..... Simple question do they make short style spark plugs for a small block chevy. I know if I go to the local "chump Zone" they will have no clue! I need part #'s please!
Get spark plugs for a mid to late 60's Corvette, I believe the autolite number is AP 144 or APP 144. These plugs are very short.
accel and ac i think makes them ....i know accel does....not sure on the numbers...good for those tight fittin' headers......brandon
Accel makes special "header" spark plugs. F**K! ...I installed a set in one of the project engines in my shop, and I just went out to get the # for you. Somebody stole em! Anyway, if you try Summit online you can get a number for your engine, then go buy em at the local speed shop. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SPEED EQUIPMENT DEALER.
Not quite. That is a standard resistor plug. The plug number in that kit is 0576. For a shorty plug you should use 0576S. You could also use the 0276S which are non-resistor. ****EDIT!!! scratch that... error in my catalog... that number is correct. But those are correct individual plug numbers for shorty plugs****
Yeah I used those Accel plugs, they work good. I just swapped them out because I took the headers off and went to Rams Horn.
NGK makes one too. It's for a snowblower or something. I have some in the Fly. I'll hafta see if I can find a number.
anywhere that there is a cross reference chart that I can use to figure out which shorty header plugs to use ? Now running ACDelco R45TS
I was also looking for a short plug. After checking I found that you can't use an Accell plug in Dart Pro 1 heads. The plugs that I needed are 5/8 14mm .375 Be sure and chech the plug size before you order. If you have the 13/16 size plugs your good to go.
Ended up ordering Accel 8199 Plugs (5/8", for 13/16"use 8197) from: spark-plugs.org (operate thru amazon.com) for my Chevy V8. It had ACDelco R45TS/1976-1984 Corvette, and others. Found out that R=resistor; 4=14mm; 5=heat range; T=tapered seat; S=extended tip. General info. As for spark-plugs.org the Accel 8199 plugs (8) were $12.76 plus $5.40 to ship = $18.16 total. Saved big compared to Summit with shipping or local Big Chain Store with tax.
Did my search for plugs on Web Crawler , has web's top search engines spun together. Got my Accel plugs from spark-plugs.org via Amazon shipping - got to me quickly . Plugs are new.
At work I sell autolite ar133 or ar144 for gas peanut tapered seat & ar73 for flat gasket pre 71 heads. Only thing is they all have cut back electrode that most gappers can screw up.
hi all, long time reader, first time posting. Interesting thread here, just thought I'd share my 2 cents. My engine is a Gen 1 SBC 350 (I don't know what the donor vehicle was) When I check the plugs on my car, the previous owner had used NGK BP5FS SP54 So I ordered the same. They were hard to find, and the shop that I bought them deals with old school motorcycles. Go figure. (I guess I'll use them for now as I have them already) Here's how it compares to the other plug picture above. from
I’m a little late to the party but I also went with the Accel 0576S for my SBC 350. I did support my local speed shop Winners Circle in Joliet Illinois.
Just curious anyone ever try the NGK UR5GP? it's a platinum shorty plug specs: Spark Plug Thread Size: 14mm Spark Plug Reach: 0.460 in. Spark Plug Seat Style: Tapered Wrench Diameter: 5/8 in.
I run the the UR5 in this motor and if you wanted a step hotter would be a UR4. Not the platinum though.
In about an hour I can get you some plug numbers at work that are for a tractor of some sort that are super short , shorter than the excels that I've used in a lot of small black Chevy stuff fat and peanut plug
Here's a couple part numbers. For the peanut plugs I use Autolite ar13. For the fat plugs I use champion cjb or 843
