shock position / selection?

Hi! My question is, I have a spring behind setup, Should I use a friction style shock or a tube shock? Also, where is the best position for them to mount? I only have room to put them on the wish bones. How far back mounted is too far? Thanks! Yes, I searched, but no dice!
