I know this may be slightly off topic, but I am looking to see if anyone on the forum has shipped, or has a good lead on a shipper to ship a vehicle from South Africa to the USA. I have 2 good shippers from Australia to the US that I have used, now trying to reach a little further. When I used the shippers I had from Oz I went only on personal recommendations.
Plenty of RHD South African stuff ends up here, maybe speak to someone here in Australia who gets imports from South Africa to here.
Well, if it was 1984 and I needed to get something large stateside, I'd find the nearest Air Force loadmaster and slip him a couple hundred dollars....... amazing how much personal stuff was aboard home bound c130's
The corruption angle is one of the reasons I was reaching out. There is a Cortina Bakkie in the UK for sale, very clean but a little pricey, even if I figured in the shipping from the UK to the US being less. Not giving in just yet.
Bakkie, South African for ute. Ken, You must be a hard-core ute lover to consider a Cortina version. I was actually expecting one of those late 1968-1971 SA monaro look-a-like Chevy jobs.
If the ute is in the UK, what are you shipping from South Africa? I have seen a Cortina ute here, but it was a cut-down wagon.
I have shipped many cars from South Africa to the UK and have a real good guy in SA that's finds cars to order can pass on details if it helps, Wayne
Cost, the Pound is still higher than the USD and even though the Bakkie is very clean, I think its slightly overpriced. Add in shipping, its even more. I had chances to get XF Falcon Utes here in the USA but the asking prices high, and I ended up getting one shipped for less, plus I got a gem!
Yes pretty hard core for sure, or sick The Monaro's are like the XW to XC Falcons in regards to expensive. Even the Chrysler Chargers are expensive now due to demand. Most rusted away. I was thinking of a Falcon sedan, but these other Fords have caught my attention.
If you do a member search and put in South Africa for the location, you'll get a list of HAMB'rs there. @Ned Ludd might have an idea as well.
Hi Ken, I have had very good experiences with https://www.worldnetlogistics.com/ There are other options available such as 39WILLZ contact. Good luck!
Willing to look into any option. Thanks for the response from the forum on a kind of off topic thread!
Sorry, can't help, as I haven't exported anything substantial. 39WILLZ's guy might be an option. Corruption is mostly about "lubricating" bureaucracy, and most of the bureaucracy is on the import side. They're not that much concerned about what goes out; it's what comes in which has to jump bureaucratic hurdles. The PTB are pretty upfront about it being all about keeping the market tied up for the privileged mainstream motor industry establishment. The occasional reasons they put forth about safety and the environment are really paper-thin. There should be a lesson in that for the rest of the world.
