I picked up a small wood working lathe, I have a couple of really awesome looking burl cherry pieces. I am a little concerned about how to fit these machined wooden knobs to the threads. My fear is that if I just tap the wood that it will shatter or crack under use. Is there a fitting or a tapped part that you put into the knob and epoxy it, or do most guys tap the wood? Any sources for fittings would be appreciated, Thanks.

  2. I would drill the hole to fit in a steel or brass threaded insert and epoxy it in. It should hold fine.If it breaks. Make another one.

years ago i worked at a wood factory and sometimes installed inserts in oak pieces. some had a expandable end that went in first. i doubt you ould ever have to worry about that coming off. good luck.
