I am starting on my interior work (loving being in the shop agian!!)

The column is a early 70's Chevy truck column. My first question is can I remove the knob on the end of the shifter arm? If so how? I have tried "un-screwing it" and that doesn't seem to be the answer. If anyone has an idea, i would appreciate it!! Thanks

It is just like the pic below.

  2. Usually they're press fit. Just pull it off.

You do know how to pull it don't you? :D

The tip of the lever is splined & the knob is pressed/driven on. Pop out the pin that holds the lever to the column & you can put the lever in a vise & drive the knob off.

  7. take the lever off...put the knob end into boiling water...using a glove pull it off quickly.

After 40+ years that joker didn't want to come off in one piece. However, it is now off...ended up driving it off. Thanks for the help...
