  5. W motors have always been great. Raced both 348 and 409s back when they were brand new. Am putting a 340 horse 09 w/4spd in my 59 El Camino and a FH 350 horse 348 w/4spd in my 60 Impala, building a clone to the one I bought new and raced. Didn't know you did "W" motors too!!! LOL

Did you have to use the 348 heads to get the tri-power to bolt up?

  16. Nope as the 340 horse car 409 as well as the truck 409 both use the small port heads.

Great looking motor. I can't wait to get my 409 fired up in my '32 Tudor. Now I'm off to work in the shop.

Are the 340hp 409 heads the same ones that were used on the 350hp 348? Or perhaps the factory replacements for the 348 heads?

  19. Yes, but the 409 heads go for less bucks. The #1147 348 HP heads go for BIG $$$$.

They are a short stroke engine, put some modern light weight pistons/decent rods in there and they will rev just fine.

Oh come now, you don't think I used any stock parts in my build do you?
Not with my background .... :)

It's got a lightweight crank,H-beam rods , forged pistons that have been CNC lightened
    10:25 comp,pretty stiff cam
    Roller rockers,head work,and so on

Backed with a Muncie and a 3:43 olds posi rear

Now I got to get my ass in gear on the car

I love hemis but the 348/409 is right up there with the looks and performance.
