I'm no longer going to complain about the inch of bondo along the whole driver side of my Fury!
I haven't seen this thread since you first posted, the car is looking great!, I am going to do my bed with upolstery,,, roll and pleat on the sides, cover the wheel tubs, and then some sort of carpet on the floor, funny that you are in fla. that is where a couple of the companies are located that sell pre made pleated boat interiors, I am pretty sure they are indoor/outdoor... kind of what i was looking into for the bed.
Some progress pics finally. I've been working on the car a lot, I finally got the jambs painted and hung the doors. The rocker on the passenger side was really tight against the door bottom. I shoulda rebuilt the hinges and hung the doors prior to replacing the rockers but I didn't. I had to slice the rocker across the top lengthwise and tap it down and reweld to make a consistent gap, it was pretty easy all in all.
Other side, the doors fit good, I already test fitted the fenders previously and everything lines up well. It was a bitch of a job, I had to use shims and all kinda trickery to get 'em to line up.
You can't see the blue pearl over the pink unless the car's in the sun but it is really pretty.
The quarters are finally done and straight, that was a big job, also under the back window is a pain, it looks pretty good but not as straight as it could be, no one will notice though, it's really hard to block upside down.
PS, come to our show.
Nice to see some progress pics on this one, especially now that I sold my '60 Elky...I'll live vicariously through your build
Why? How could you?
Your inner panel on the t/gate looks different than mine, that area with the 'X'. No biggy, just looks like somethings missing from mine. And please disregard my last comment on my thread B)! I guess it really did happen Hahaha Very cool, Nads
Is it, I didn't know they had any different ones? That's a screw in panel.
Oh yeah, I'm finishing up the fenders now, I'm covered in sanding dust.
I'm still following this thread
Some day can you show me a picture of the clips that hold the trim on the back edge of the roof and how and where they attach?
Okay.. I don't have that screw in panel. Imma have ta make one!
I'm working on my fender, also. Used this between the jack and the fender. Eric from Gazelle Machining stopped by, "he" suggested we lay the hood on to see where I was in relation to the fender. Glad he did, it gave me a chance to mark the areas needing work
From the yellow line forward, it needed to come up, since it was wrecked
I never noticed the 58 Impala vent in the roof.
My fenders are in incredible condition, no dents, no rust, I just had to weld up holes where the name plates and rockets went, and the umpteen sets of mirrors that were put on her over the years.
I've yet to start putting the front valence panels on, I know the passenger side isn't matching very well, my pieces were pretty mangled up and I straightened 'em out as best as I could, but I might have to pie cut and cheat to get a good fit.
Never been done as far as I know, the idea popped in my head one night.
That Impala vent really suits it IMHO.
I effin love this build!
looks like somebody was making a cake....
I bought a 70 Charger R/T one time that obviously by the strange bow and the deeply recessed marker light had a lot of bondo in the drivers front fender... well just for the hell of it I decided to see how bad it was so I broke out a grinder and Holy shit no exageration the whole fender from the front bumper to the door edge was loaded with the area center of the wheelwell being 3 inches thick yes 3 inches!!! well the only thing actually wrong with the fender was it had a crease running down the center but apparently whomever was trying their hand at bodywork kept adding more bondo and chasing the waves until they got it straight...... that was the worst fail I have ever seen with bondo.......
My rockers were worse than that when I cut them out, it was fucking insane. I also had an entire 1/4 panel that was brazed together halfway down all the way back. Needless to say that that bullshit got replaced. What is wrong with people?
Lightening it up, huh! Should get better mileage. Looking good!
Good work Nadnik. How is your wagon? I heart that thing.
Remember the SNL skit featuring the "Adobe?"
This actually has been one of my favorite builds to follow on the HAMB.
I thought of this thread, too, when I pulled the fenders off my '50 Chevy a while back. 1/4" or more of bondo over the whole thing on both of them - for no apparent reason, I only see a couple of spots with pop-rivet tin patches from the inside. Compared to some '52 fenders I picked up that are decent, they feel like they're at least 10 lbs heavier.
Excellent progress Nads.......Keep it up......Mike
Put the back window in. The clips are in, it all fits together amazingly well, I had to trim the filler piece edge so it would drop down, I'll take more pics when I get home.
