Those are brass wool pads to clean rusty chrome slot wheels that cats have been pissing on. I showed the wife the scoop idea, she can't visualize it, I'll have to make one out of Captain Crunch boxes so she gets the idea. BTW, I'm seriously thinking about going Mary Kay pink.........FTW! I looked at her this morning, she doesn't look too stupid. Rustynewyorker, I've thought of a 57 Buick grille, I had one too, but I sold it cheap to Ron's LA Tacos years ago to put on his wall.
I think I'd raise the back of that roof up a little, if anything (imo) it should be slanted up a little in the back instead of down, to more closely follow the lines of those fins. Again, just my opinion
You might be right, but it'll be a bitch to do, the time to do it is now, I hope I didn't chuck the cut offs away.
Case De Nads looks AMAZING! Sorry to hear about the parents, I lost my Mom last year too. I love the Elky. Waayy bad ass. I cant wait to see it all done up and fancy like!
I've looked at it and looked at it and I'm not happy, she's going back up an inch or two in the back. When I get home tonight I'll evaluate how to do it. I reckon I can slice through the roof support near the A-pillars and then slice the roof skin where it was cut before, I'll leave a small flap for support. Then I'll saw the B-pillars again and jack up the roof until I'm happy, then reweld it all. The windshield dimensions will be unaffected, trust me, the doglegs and posts are welded solid, nothing will move. I gotta be happy, I don't know how it ended up like this, measure once, cut twice or some such advise the sages give you, I shoulda followed it.
what are them square deal ie ma hoppers called again that hold the metal, i cant remember for the life of me nice work btw
I think a 58 impalla roof scoop might look cool. Or maybe it'd be too long. The cereal box thing might be key for that one. It is kinda hard to picture. But looking at the pictures, I don't think it slopes too far back and maybe the scoop isn't needed. It's going to be a sweet car, I say throw everything you can back on it and get it to ride height, and see how it looks. If you're planning a relatively flat stance, the roof might be fine, but if you're shooting for some tail-dragging, it might be too much.
I dunno, Harbor Freight has them, they're like $9 for 8, they're invaluable for this kinda work. Kilroy, I think I'll still do a scoop whether I raise the roof or not.
OK, I couldn't stand it, so I unchopped her an inch in the back. Follow along as to what I did after work last night. I sliced the roof up front where it was the thinnest and sliced it diagonally up to where I split it, then I jacked up the rear of the roof. I then welded a temporary brace to the roof so I could saw the B-pillars. I pie cut the B-pillar and sloped it back to meet the bottom, I used a piece of strap to tie it together, I threw the cut offs away like a dumbass, but the section is easy to replicate. Now there's going to be a problem fitting the rear window but this was the only way to do this without undoing a lot of work. I'll be able to tweak the opening to get a fit, I think, if not then good 'ol Lexan will be utilized.
The car is looking good, but HOLY FU** That house is unreal. Are there 6 garage doors? Dude I got to ask what the F do you do for a living? I am always curious when I see a house like that to figure out how to pay for it. Not hatin on ya if ya got it flaunt it, but please let us know the secret. Did you invnent something, land owner,??? prettty wild
Go further back up the post and you'll see the sad details. God willing it'll be sold soon and I can return to sanity. I sell Florida souvenirs. There are EIGHT garage doors.
Thanks, I'm really loving it now, it's subtle, not overpowering, more like Paul's Elky. I'm itching to get more done on here but I'll be taking a break with my family this weekend, but the next one will involve much shredding. I'm thinking over some roof scoop ideas in my head, the wheels are turning.
Looks MUCH better! I hesitated to say anything, but I knew that the time to fix it was now. It seems that it's pretty much how I do everything,--- do it, don't like it, fix it, repeat!
the chop looks a lot better with the level roof. You could have gone another step further (why not, with all of the other cutting and grinding!) and sunk the windshield into the dash so you wouldn't have to cut it and lower the lid even more in the front like my buddy Greg did on his Impala.... I need to come stay with you before you sell the place. ha ha ha
