Howdy friends. I'm in the Scranton PA area for the next few weeks, helping out with all the flooding / hurricane damage in the area. If I should happen to get any down time, I'd like to look around a bit. Anybody have any idea if there are any events in the area coming up? Any highlights in the area I need to see? I did a quick search, and found a post about a wrecking yard up in Mountain Top that I'll check out for sure, and I will be sure to hit the Steamtown Railroad museum / national park. Come on PA guys, what's there to do in these parts? Thanks, keith
Im in the same boat but in the Harrisburg area. I know the Hershey and Carlisle swaps are coming up soon.
Here are a few links for ya- It's a little far from Scranton, but the Karb Kings' Mobtown Greaseball is 9/23-9/24. http://mobtowngreaseball.blogspot.com/ The Jalopy Showdown Drags are Oct 1st. http://www.jalopyshowdown.com And as JustJoey said, Carlisle and Hershey are definitely worth checking out. Carlisle is Sept 28th - Oct 2nd- http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/fall-carlisle/ Hershey is Oct 5th - Oct 8th- http://hersheyaaca.org/fallmeet.html If you're still around at the end of October, the Jalopyrama is October 22nd http://jalopyrama.com/
I'm not personally familiar with the Villa Capri Cruisers Car Club in Scranton but this might be a good place to start. http://villacapricruisers.com/index.html If you have time, check out the AACA Museum in Hershey or the Simeone Museum in Philly, both worth seeing.
Englers junk yard in Nuangola is about 20 minutes away. Heard they crushed alot, don't know what's left.
man 30 yrs ago that was the place to go now when i drive by i just see lots of tree....i wonder whats left
Trust me! There is'nt shit going on in Scranton! Everything that's good happens south of here. There's a cruise night at the viemont mall this fri held by the pocono mtn street rods. If it's nice it will be crowded. Stop by and say Hi, i will be there with my fleetline and merc.
X2...The old Blast Furnaces and a Coal Mine you can go in...Where ever you stay should have some booklets..
There's some cool non car stuff to see in the area. Check out the Number 9 Mine near Tamaqua. It's a cool tour of an old coal mine I think they charge 8 bucks!! Another place to see is Centrailia. It's a ghost town that was overtaken by a mine fire that started in 1962. Read up on it on the internet and then go check it out. Very sad and yet very interesting. Cabelas is a neat place to see even if you're not an outdoorsman. Try a burger at the Port Clinton Hotel, just north of Cabelas on Rt. 61. There's lots to see if you take the time to look around.. Enjoy the sights!!
As the leaves begin to turn take a ride through the Poconos, Endless Mountains, PA Rt 6, Grand Canyon or DE Water Gap.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'll see what I can fit in, I don't get a whole lot of free time.
Thanks for all the linemen and tree guys for restoreing service's after the storm! I live in CT and was without power for almost a week! Every service truck I met in my travels got a thank you wave from me. The local fairgrounds here was home base for Canada Ohio And Wisconsin. Im sure others were there as well.
