Started mocking up parts for my baby flattie. Should I go with the single 97 or make an adapter to run (2) 81s? Any other suggestions? :)

That would look so cool in my riding lawn mower... . That carb looks awful lonely up there all by itself.

Agreed, two is more cooler than one. That is the ONLY thing that could make that motor any higher on the Holy Crap That's Bitchin' scale.

    My pants are uncomfortably tight.

If a 60 can run on 2(81s-97s) , that needs 2 of the above to be cool too! That's better than Cool, what it going to ride in? Sets MBR up for some competition! Getter done!

It's going in a 1930 American Austin roadster. Disregard the passengers, they just wanted to know if it was possible to get 2 people in it. I have a set of 13" magnesium Halibrand kidney bean 6 pin knockoffs that will be going on it too. 4" in the front, 5.5" in the rear. A full size flathead is just too big for the car which is why I chose to go with the V8-60 instead. Even it looks big for the car but just by enough to not look too big. I was also contemplating making an adapter to run 2 SCOT blowers on it since I have another blower of the same type that I could use.

  9. I would run a pair of 97s. Normal logic doesn't apply when your huffing and the more air you can draw the better. You can always jet is to suit your build.

How much boost? looks like an awesome setup.

I know nothing about supercharging, but that is a bitchin' looking little engine. I like it a lot.

By chance does anyone have or know of a crank driven water pump that can be used on a V8-60? Pics would be a big help. I've seen the one that Speedway sells but I really don't like it. I'd rather have something like an aluminum casting that looks old and period correct for the motor. I have a dual Wico magneto setup on a Barker drive that I plan on using with an Eddie Meyer timing cover. Since I will be blocking off the stock water ports I need some sort of alternative.

  19. Well give me a chance to piss everyone off. Electric. :D

Nope don't know of one off the top of my head, maybe find a belt driven if you look around some of the catalog speed shops.

Norden made a crank driven water pump (there is a copy of it available) and Van Dyne makes the Offy / Drake pump.

  21. Wow, that's a bitchin set up. I'm of the two carb opinion too.
Two blowers would be insane. Did I mention I like insane? :D
I've never seen those finned water pipes before. What's the story with them? :) Very cool.

The water logs are part of the Jiggler head setup. The heads are dry deck/air cooled hence all the fins. The logs are there as a way to get water out of the top of the block since the heads don't have a provision for that.

Eggers and Vetting (EVM) made a cast aluminum single outlet pump commonly used on Chevy II midget racing engines that could be adapted to mount to your timing cover and is crank driven. I acquired a pair used and adapted one of them to my Studebaker Champion in-line 6 powered midget. Ron's Fuel Injection bought out EVM years ago but still sells the pump new.

I also ran a V8-60 midget for years with no water pumps. I had a very large capacity radiator and top tank, water outlet headers like your Jiggler, six 3/4" water outlets from the bottom of the radiator to 3 water inlets on each side of the block. Totally vented pressure cap so it couldn't blow any hoses. It could only run at 212 degrees at the worst and evaporate some water.

Think early evaporative cooled stationary engines and Model T Fords.

I suspect this Smith Jiggler set-up is mounted on a resurrected block for display purposes. The bell housings were commonly cut off when used in a midget race cars as most of the transmissions were replaced with an in/out box (some incorporating change gears).

The block isn't a display piece. It's already prepped and converted for the Jiggler heads with the exhaust ports blocked off and exhaust valve seats welded up and drilled for pushrods.

  29. Great looking engine, the single carb looks lonely, if a second 81 carb is two much, you have the option of 2 single barrel carbs.
