This is a great loss for the racing and hot rodding community, my condolences to his family and friends. He obviously had a great passion for what he did and it showed, he will surely be missed.

I was honored to have been at Mokan to see him run and was just in the right place at the right time to catch that shot. I have others from that day of him and they all showed a man in his glory. If you want the originals please drop me a PM and I'll get them right to you.

The Drag-N-Fly team sends our condolences. We saw him at the Round Up recently. The Scorpion team won't be the same.
    Godspeed.

  4. I met Bill at theHRR in Bowling Green and was blown away by the car and the restoration and the whole team.

Then to see it run later that year at the HAMB drags no less was the highlight of the summer. I fugured the car would only be displayed for all to see but let me tell you I about fell out of the bleachers when I saw it come to the line at Mokan.

    A very sad day indeed.

The '06 Drags was my first HAMB Drags ever...and getting to see the Scorpion and crew was the highlight of my trip. I did not know who they were, but the feeling of something special happining was running through everybody at the track that day. I am at a loss for words right now, but the smiles that I saw on everybodys face in that pit is a memory that I will have forever.

    Godspeed, and Godbless.

Damn Don, this really stinks. He was a great guy, and always had a smile. I can't imagine not seeing him with the Scorpion. Man, this just stinks. That picture of him sittin' in the cockpit, with that 'sh*t-eatin'-grin, is priceless. I printed that out on 11x17 after the HAMB Drags last year, and gave it too him at the Northwest Bible Church car show, that next Wednesday night.
Dang I'm gonna miss that smile.
Do keep us posted on the services.
Prayers for the family and friends.

    Sad to hear.
I have a pic of him after that run hanging in my shop. Every time i look at it i can't help but smile and think " Better than Viagra". I missed the drags last year and was hopeing the car would be back this year. I would have loved to line up my new digger against it for photos more than anything. Godspeed Bill

  8. Very sorry to hear the news. I didn't meet him, but it was a thrill to see him drive the Scorpion at Mokan.

Condolences to Bill's friends and family.

This is a tragic loss not only as a hell of a car guy but just as a man in general, the smile on his face was that of a little boy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. My life is richer for having known him. God Bless

  11. A real loss for sure.

It's cool to see that he did what he enjoyed for so long...

My best wishes to his family and friends.

i remember sitting in the stands with BobK and watching him make a run at MoKan, then heading down and talking with him for a moment about the car. . . the thing i remember most is the 1/4 mile wide grin he had.

Hey Bob, thanks for pointing out Bill and his car to me while we sat watchin. the gift of a great memory is as rare and priceless as friendship... and thanks to team Scorpion I...

Don, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and Bills family... God speed Bill

God bless you and Bill's family. I always enjoyed talking to him about where all those scorpions ended up. Really makes me appreciate the HAMB and the Texas hot rod scene. We're lucky to have so many older guys that really take the time to share their knowlegde and experience.

  15. My condolences to his family and the Scorpion crew. Got to know him some at the last HAMB drags. Had a great talk comparing hemi notes. Started out when he realized I was running the same intake as he was. He will be missed!

im sure im not the only one who's said this or will say this.. but im sure when ever a person of high stature and a contributor to this pass -time we all love dearly passes its a collective sadness. though i never met him, it still cause a deep feeling that if only i could have. the picture of him in the scorpion speaks volumes and lets us know that he was happy and seemingly where he wanted to be. one more from a fast vanishing era of our history is now gone, but his lasting impression and legacy will go on in our hearts and the hot rod heritage forever.
