Hot Rods Score!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Oct 25, 2017.

  1. Sometimes it just pays pays to be lucky,I saw a 68 Bronco rear axle advertised on CL but there was no price so out of curiosity I called and the guy lived less than 2 miles away, within a hour I brought the axle home and unloaded it in the shop.

Not only was it close to home but he wanted to get rid of it,he ask me was it worth 100 bucks,I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough.

I now have another suspension part for that future unknown project. :D HRP

Danny I was at this old man's house when I picked up the 51 chevy truck. Saw a 1957 ford 9" ask what he was going to do with it he said (give it to you) I loaded it up with the truck. It's going in a 32 I bet.

  12. Nice score, I drove out of state to buy one minus pumpkin for a hundred, scored a junkyard one for 70 and my spare complete one for 150.
I got a text the other day wanting to know if I wanted a free 9in pumpkin with 3.25 gears, went over and also scored a brand new 3 core aluminum radiator for 50 ! 20171012_105950.jpg 20171009_141736.jpg

    Speaking of rearends.
Yes, I've told this story before.
I worked with a guy that bracket raced a 57 Ford sedan, I had been looking for a specific nine inch housing, a 57 F100 (1/2 ton).
One day we were talking about drag racing, rearends, etc. and I asked him if he knew what these housings were, he said I sure do, I have one and have no plans for it, I nearly crapped myself. Holding in my enthusiasm I asked how much and he goes bring over a six pack, five bucks and help me take it out from under my utility trailer.
He just wanted the center section and axles, I asked him why he didn't want the housing and he just said they're too big and heavy.
By the way, I drank half the beer too.

I call these the Kardashian rearend because they are big.

The score only happens when you open it up and you can wipe the gear oil off, then set dinner on it...

    It’s no $100.00 rear end.
But I picked up this brand new Currie Enterprises 9”.
Nodular 3rd member, disc brakes, true trac posi with 4:10 gears from a local high school shop teacher.
Was going into a 50 Chevy PU class project. But he wanted to use a Corvette suspension instead.
He paid Currie $1500.00 for it. After getting approval from Currie to sell it for that. He sold it to me.
It’s a $3500.00 rear end for less than half price!

Might allow for some deeper dish wheels under your next project:)
(dont anyone freak out over the wheels, just tryin to show deeper dish wheels under the fenders)
.....and/or mainly just the nice original look of the rest of the truck.
