Like others in here - we used those 'little books' to determine where we were going with our hot rods. Some modifications were just too expensive for a high school kid pumping gas and fixing flats, but by and large, a big impact on what we drove. Those magazines are what convinced me to sell my 47 Merc coupe and build a REAL hot rod - a 28 'A' RPU with a flattie Merc and 2x2s. Sneaking those books into class became a 'must do' and we'd trade them back and forth until they were so dog-eared we weren't sure which pages went with which book.

Thanks for the time you spent scanning so we could reminisce.

Great post, thanks for taking the time to do this.

There should be a "database" with all the little book covers and maybe a table of contents out there. Maybe this could be the start of one if it doesn't already exist.

  18. Mazooma-Why don't you take a couple days off to recover after scanning all these covers?:D I was starting cramp up just from saving copies of most of them.

Going to see what kind of wallpapers I might put together from them if I can can get any idea of what kind of screen resolutions people are using around here. 1024x768? 1280x1024? 1600x1200? 1680x1050?

I second everyone else...thanks for posting!!! the memories come flooding back.

the purple mid-engined roadster was Jim Fox and Dennis Holding's ...ran carbed and then blown Chrysler...one of the best built, in my opinion...would be really neat if it was still around, would love to see it restored.

I took the cover scans and have started the "Library / Archive."

I will add more as people keep posting here, I also have a handful that have not yet been posted that I need to scan.

Here's where the archive will be for now (I may move it down the line)

If anyone has issues not already posted please help fill in the gaps (post here or send to me directly).

Great idea... thanx Mazooma. I didn't want to be the first to say it... there are some REALLY strange vehicles on those covers. Jeez, Louise, some of them are just too wierd to believe. What were some of those guys thinking? Gary
