I think so because I've never seen that raised area before. I don't know much about the rear opening either. Interesting piece.
I did some trading for this intake years ago from a guy who thought it was a Thunderbird intake. I recognized the HM logo but have never seen another like this. It came off of a running 289.
Note the serial number ? or part number? just to the left of the raised logo. Does the HM indicate that its a Holman-Moody? Just a WAG on my part !!! CHEERZZZZ !!!!
I was fairly positive this was a Holman Moody piece....I've never seen one like it before. Not even in old catalogs. I was mainly wondering what it was for...street use or something specific??
the opening at the back is just like a stock 221-260 intake road draft tube setup... which implies this was intended for same, and not 289, but i could be absofuckinglutely wrong. as i often am. just ask my wife. BTW i'll take that off yer hands if ya got no immediate use for it......
Send H&M a email with your pics and see if they will verify it for ya: Link:http://www.holmanmoody.com/index.html
No heater hose outlet either !! Hmmm!! I have a H/M book at the shop I'll take a look at it when I get back in the am >>>>.
I'm betting it's for an early 60's 260 or 289 when they still used generators vs the alt.Clean it up & use it.The later 289/302 & 351w H&M intakes had the name spelled out & no wing insignia.
I had forgot this posting but here's some add'l info. The intake may have been the style that HM made for the Monte Carlo Rally Falcons. HM built 15 Rally Falcons but if they made 100 of these intakes...the others were probably sold to the public or at the famous garage sale in the 70's. From HM I think the intake is an early Ralley Falcon intake. We made a number of intakes for the small block engines, trying to find one that we could run in Europe as a standard "Ford" part. After that we would used the over production on marine engines or sell them for hot rodders. The bird is a cast off from the early company trade name T-Bird power products.. We started using that name in 1959 when we were racing T-Bird in NASCAR. I would think you have one of about 100 intakes that were made. We would change the molds before the next run as we learned more we would update parts with each part run. Lee Holman
Defnatly cool for intake and ford collectors , I think it's awesome that H-M took the time to repsond too . Thats good business and a true racer .
Can I interest you in my first born! That is way cool, I want it bad....seriously! Looks like an early casting with the rear opening.
In 1963-64 there were also COBRA and TIGER lettered versions of this intake. The COBRA and TIGER versions have been recreated but have easily identifiable differences from originals. If somebody comes up with another one of these and would talk trade for an original COBRA one, let me know. Dan
I have one from a '83.5-'85 HO Mustang that looks almost the same... I just sold the rare '83 stang for a grand but I kept the intake and also the the weird looking Holley carb that it came with.. I think it's an R-4180 585 cfm carb..
Here is the anwser right from Holman Moody. Keith This is what I think it might be. Before Ford made any 351 engines Holman & Moody made some that were more like a 289. We only made about 10 engines total. I think this intake might be from a hm 351. The front and rear curved sections on our 351 do not match the Ford 351 so if you can find a Ford block you might want to set the intake on the block and see if it fits. Lee
