Here's an update on the build. Disc brakes up front are now complete with new master cylinder. Rear brakes are also completely redone. All new rubber and hard lines. They work really well. Gas tank was cleaned out and repaired. Just a few cracks around the fuel inlet area. Tank was installed and works great. Some "get by" wiring installed for now, the whole thing needs redone, but for now I wired up the ignition to a key along with the fuel pump and installed a push button. The valve lash was pretty bad on a couple so they all got adjusted. Sounds like a sewing machine now and starts and run pretty well. Living in California, something like this can site for 40 years in a field and be resurrected. Pretty amazing. The truck is running and driving and stopping and should be with its new owner soon. I had a guy contact me while I was posting updates on IG and said he wanted it. He has until March 1 to pay or else it goes up for sale to everyone. If you interested let me know. Pretty solid truck with a few big dings that need pulled out. Very little rust though considering how long it sat in a field with a window down. Its been fun, time to move on to my other cars.

Took the panel for its maiden voyage over the weekend. While I was very pleased with how it drove, and the noises it made, the poor radiator let me down and puked coolant out. Being parked for 40 plus years didn’t do it any favors. So, a new one is on order, and my hope is that will cure the cooling issues. The disc brakes work really well, very pleased with that. Great little truck.

Cool truck, never saw this thread before. Shocking how solid that truck is, considering it's storage. Here in Wisconsin it would have been nothing but a roof and some smoked glass. Even the hood held up with all that black dirt sitting on top, impressive. Glad you got it out and got it going again.

  12. The DMV wouldn't let you use the black plates ?. All you need to do it prove they were on the truck, like a pink or registration with them on it.

Well that was one of the reasons I was able to get it. He was moving out of California. He has seen me post up the progress on FB though. He's pretty amazed, so am I honestly. Thats a long time to sit.

No, I had zero paper work on it to start with so wasn't able to keep the plates. I have them on the wall in the garage now.

Agreed, pretty shocked it still runs and drives with essentially a good tune up and brake job. Even able to keep the original gas tank was shocking. Had it hot tanked and some of the brazing redone and it was good to go.

  16. The old Ford 223 6 cylinder is a good engine, hard to kill one of them.

I can't post the video here, but a couple of the rockers were way out of adjustment so was making a pretty good racket. After adjusting it sounds way better and they could be adjusted a bit tighter. Compression is around 95lbs for each of the cylinders. Now to get the cooling system finished up. Overall pretty pleased with how it runs.

Been busy on this guy. Cleaned out all the old shelves. New gauges installed. Factory gauge panel pulled, cleaned and reinstalled. Seats pulled. Floor cleaned. Radiator installed. Alternator installed. Been a busy couple of weeks.

I can’t either. It’s really surprised me. Also how well it runs. 40lbs of oil pressure after sitting for 40 years.

Officially for sale. Hit me up.

Cleaning up the paint. Using some soapy steel wool pads. Works very well. I’ll come back with the buffer, but this takes the haze off real nice.

Looks good. Was wondering what the rear wheels and caps are? Would love to get that combo for my 57.
