R A few years ago I purchased a set of front and rear sedan fenders from a fellow hamber. The rear were very rusty where they attached to the body This was not s concern as I intended to use them on a coupe Last summer I bought a set of bobbed coupe fenders with the intention of combining the two sets Decided today to undertake the process Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. Been there, hate when the when wire or gas runs out, seemingly just a few minutes after the welding supply store closes for the nite/ weekend. the frame looks sturdy.
Weighs more than I thought, felt like I threw my back out Saturday night moving it around and not much better when I got up ! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Tim , do you remember when you stopped me at Louisville next to your tent and you after a while understood that it was me sitting on the passenger side. It was Mike who has this buildthread behind the wheel that day =)
It was a wonderful trip, we should do it more often Mike =) Love that you're going full fender , keep it up Mike.
I agree Martin! Heck, You'll be back in the states before you know it! Everyone ..Martins car is a trip to drive. It is so solid , and quiet ... Unbelievable! Well..,one of these things is getting fenders! And I need to make it a priority to finish one! Instead of working on two! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

I should have picked up some of those $75.00 front fenders at Hershey. They would have made good patches. Bob
I just finished this thread for the second time in two?? years. Really outstanding. Every page has a ton of tips and tricks. I've really been concentrating on the details on this last read because I'm starting a '33 Willys build and needed the inspiration and what ever tips I could glean from it. I hope you realize how much you contribute to the culture (rod type). Seeing work like this makes the rest of us reach down a little deeper and expect better of our own work. Thank you for your work. Thankfully I won't have the extreme rust you had to deal with, but I'm going to become an expert on bullet holes. Norm
Norson I am going to have to honest with you , I read your post at noon and I read it again when I got home from work . Not because I did not understand or to get clarification , but because of the impact your words had on me. Thank you , I mean really, a heartfelt thank you !!! I love working on cars, I have since I bought my first car at 15, a 37 Chevy . It makes me very happy that what I do can be shared on Hamb for others to view . I watch dozens of threads to learn just as you do. Most of what I can do, make, or repair is a result of what I have learned or been taught by others . This site allows us all to share, exchange and converse . I appreciate the kind words and am glad that I can in some small way help you with your project! Thank you Mike Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
. Nicely said. This is why I spend so much time on the HAMB. so I can learn, and I've learn't an amazing amount. Thanks.
Mike I brought home my first car, a '31 Model A, at age 14 in 1956. In '65 I built my avitar. Fabricating is one thing, but I've always wanted to form sheet metal. Now that I'm retired I can devote all my time to forming the back half of a '33 willys.......between the honey do's. Norm
Just picked up the power plant for the chopped coupe A running 1950 Mercury flathead ! I am stoked!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
It looks like you got a lot of good stuff with it too. It has the clutch & flywheel plus the half bell. All good stuff for using one of the early ford transmission set ups with 1 3/8" 10-spline input. The Merc waterpumps set the engine low but they are adaptable to early fords using spacers. Truck pumps are more common so you don't see too many folks use the Merc ones. Hopefully it's all a good.
Thanks for the information, I just entering the world of the flatheads. Lot's to learn. So your suggesting I change the pumps to ford pickup, and they bolt up?? I looked at VanPelt site and viewed the array of water pump options and I can see what you mean. Dumped the oil today, while their was no evidence of metal filling that stuff was old and thick. I let the engine sit overnight so it could warm up. Also some very thin fluid and some very thick fluid drained out , I put the mixture in a semi clear container to sit for awhile and we will see what settles out. Given what I've seen so far, I am not going to try and start it until l I pull the pan and take a look inside.
