Maybe you could find a red lens that will fit in there off an old boat?

I love this idea so much. I've been thinking about getting a cab light off of an early truck and using it on a mini bike fender.

There was a thread about a month or so ago about ww2 era wooden aircraft seats and it got me to thinking. I,m a trim carpenter by trade so lets build a wood bomber seat. This is what I ruffed out, I will paint it O.D. green and I want to find some old galvanized sheet metal to build brackets that bridge the seams in the wood. IMG_3024.JPG IMG_3025.JPG IMG_3026.JPG I found an old piece of galvanized gutter this afternoon. Its going to be perfect for the old time gusset look on the bomber seat.

Maybe make up some od green stain or thin out some of that green coating used on interior air craft pieces instead is solid paint. Faded old tent canvas for upholstery. Holes to make it lighter???

The few pictures I have seen of the originals they looked to be O.D. green I'm throwing in the galvanized because I like the look of it. The light green in aircraft interiors is zinc chromate it was used as a metal sealer/primer since the seat is wood there would have been no reason to zinc it. As far as holes the only ones I will put in will be for the lap belts. I will also have some O.D. green cushion made for it.

I have half of my gussets built and fit. I scrounged around and found some old panhead screws to attach everything. My daughter came down to the shop to test fit the seat, looks like she has plenty of room my big ole fat ass is a different story though. IMG_3029.jpg IMG_3030.jpg IMG_3028.JPG P.S. had to get the step ladder out so she could get in!:)

I havent had much time to work on the car lately but tonight after work I took the seat apart, cut holes for the seat belts did some routing and final sanding. I stained the seat with some english chestnut and after that drys I will stain it with some O.D. green solid hide stain. My thought was if the solid stain wears thru the darker color will look a bit more vintage. IMG_3053.JPG IMG_3054.JPG

I got my dropped floor tacked together and fit. Still need to add a tunnel in the back for drive shaft clearance. IMG_3062.JPG IMG_3063.JPG IMG_3064.JPG

I believe it’s attached to the sectioned torque tubes that are welded to the angle iron. I’d assume the angle iron is bolted to the frame but I’m curious as well

I built a frame that will be drilled and tapped to the bottom of the frame rail. I,m attaching the body in the same fashion.

Ding ding ding you are correct Tim! This last January at the Denver swap meet I bought several hundred slot head stainless 10-32 machine screws. The body, grill shell and dropped floor will be attached with these fastners.

I built a recess in my floorpan for driveshaft clearance and notched the front so the transmission can drop thru. IMG_3065.jpg IMG_3066.jpg IMG_3067.JPG
