We have a Friday Art Show for the talented among us that are artistically inclined. I'm proposing a thread for artwork found, automotive related, pre 1964 per HAMB guidelines, please list artist if possible, No Girly stuff. IF this is not acceptable, moderators, delete thread. I've posted some examples of what I have in mind. Thanks everyone in advance. John[IMG][IMG] pencil mercury.jpg

  2. A few cartoons that my friend Todd Day, ( VA. HAMB ) did in his teens. I thought they were pretty cool. But the Mods said we can only post our own work on the F.A.S. So I never posted them before.
    So I hope Todd doesn't mind. :) 20201121_124328.jpeg 20201121_124351.jpeg 20201121_124259.jpeg 20201121_124231.jpeg 20201121_124202.jpeg 201101_011451_0.jpeg

  8. In the summer of 88 Lance Sorchik did this cartoon of my 29 coupe, ( LO U.F.O. ) It was in the # 29 issue of Rodder's Digest mag. I remember catching up to his Jersey Suede 34 coupe on the beltway at the Nats. At the time I had never seen it. Most cars were Easter egg colored Rods then. Which was Ok. But it was fun to see another bare bones Suede Hot Rod. He has always been one of my favorite Artists. I have a wall with all his COOL Christmas cards. I used his sketch for my HAMB avatar. Hello,

Laguna Beach is known as a very “arty” city. It has been known for its long standing Summer arts festival way back to the very early days. The local high school nickname is appropriate and will not be up for getting rid of it, due to it being culturally insensitive as per recent times. “The Artists” is the name for all sports teams and students at the high school.

The city has two public art programs. The Art In Public Places program and the Public Art And Murals program. Each has its own city rules and regulations, but it allows artists to be creative. One such artist is a little off to the side of the spectrum of the standard beach scene artwork presented every summer at the festivals. His talents started from the surf culture of South Orange County and has expanded to plenty of other media.

Back in the old “down the coast” road trips, as a teen, to points South for our surf adventures, we used to pass this motel/hotel on Coast Highway near the Thalia Street Surf Spot. It was a typical resort for travelers and had a parking lot, glass enclosed pool for guests. Every time we drove by after a hard surf session nearby, we wished we could just jump in that pool and relax…poolside. The salt would instantly wash away and we would be able to drive home 60+ miles in comfort.

In recent times, there was a local artist that was given permission to put up an unusual mural celebrating the lives of “noted” locals, including the famous “Greeter.”

ROY GONZALEZ, local So Cal artist, extraordinaire…

“Roy Gonzalez debuted his latest project, a mural outside the Laguna Riviera Beach Resort at St. Ann’s Beach. Designed to encapsulate Laguna’s quintessential elements, the vibrant seascape features a collection of the city’s most colorful characters, including Laguna’s legendary greeter, Eiler Larsen.”

“Roy is an iconic artist within the surfing world, and St. Ann’s [Beach] is where all of the surfers and locals have hung out for years, so having Roy use our wall as his canvas made perfect sense,” Laguna Riviera Beach Resort owner Kort Pearson says. “Over the years, various artists and non-artists have painted on the wall, but no one has ever come close to the detail of what Roy has accomplished. The wall is much more than just art; it is also a memorial to locals.”

As far as hot rods and customs are concerned, his artistic talents are beyond most and the creativity is outstanding.

On the next trip down Coast Highway 1 through the middle of Laguna Beach, stop look at the creative artistry of Roy Gonzalez at St. Ann’s Beach.

Thanks for the inspiration Rusty 1. This is now a project for my art class - the kids are having a blast drawing on cleaned up pallet boards. This was my example: 20201107_090715.jpg
