D'oh! The picture on the poster is so faded that I didn't connect it was the same paint job. I will now go stand in the corner and contemplate the consequences of my foolhardiness Paul
Thanks for the extra pic, I was wondering what the fourth car was on the first two pictures (from the front pic fourth from the back, from the rear pic fourth in the front). I thought it looked a bit like a '50 Chrysler because of the big rear window and roof line. Way cool to see a club from the era that started it all for most of us.
"Look before you leap?" Dammit, I'm not coming out of this corner till I've got me some seeing eye glasses! Paul
"Take a look at a premiere Custom Car Club of the 50's........"-R&C RON Great thread Ron, thanks. Well worth a bump!
Purple and white my old Castlemont High School colors. Castlemont was in Oakland and yes it was built to look like a medieval castle. The old structure was torn down in about '60 because it didn't meet current earthquake standards. I was just wondering if the club had any high school ties and if so which high school.
I graduated from Hayward High in 1959, and they were always around there. Also, I remember Joe Ortiz making and painting "Chicano Purple" mostly because Bailon painted "Candy Apple"
Looks like this tread is a little too popular. Photobucket only allows so much visitation per month on the free version.
here a pictures of FRANK LIVINGSTON 49 CHEVY AND JERRY SAHAGON 51 CHEVY in "THE 10 BEST CUSTOMS" article in CUSTOM CARS MAGAZINE JAN 58 issue
Planning to drive my '48 Plymouth down to San Leandro Thursday June 9th for the Elios Restaurant get together. Will there be any Angels there? If so post pictures of the cars you will be in. Gary
I met Sonny Morris at the San Jose Autorama in '55 when the Angels had a large showing there. Sonny's Merc was next to LeRoy Gulart's irridescent green-gold '50 Ford Coupe, and they both were LOW. A friend and I crawled and peeked under, and saw the A-frames were chained down (for the show) Talked to Sonny for awhile, nice guy! Fast forward to 2006, my brother and I were measuring a client's house for an addition, the work order said "Morris", we were talking with him, and I suddenly said, "Sonny." It had only been 50 years, so I recognized him... LOL I reminded him of that car show and "The Blue Mirage"...we talked about 3 hours, Sonny produced pics of the Merc and the sad story of its saga after he sold it... Sonny showed me his plaque and jacket, he still has them with some of his show trophies, and pictures of that exquisite Merc! He told me of the days when Joe Bailon was working on it at his shop...Joe was short of help, and attempted to lift the hood, which he had just cut the side scoops in. The heavy hood went off balance, and broke in the middle! Joe just straightened it, and the result was beautiful. Sonny was employed as an electrician, and spent every extra dollar on the project. One day, he went to the shop and asked Joe Bailon if he had any use for this new thing that just came out. He had some samples, and Joe said "Let me fool with it, I might do something..." Do something indeed. It was 1/2" EMT. (electric metal tubing, a Bailon trademark that lasted for years.) Sonny has some stories. A splendid gentleman.
Gary, Look for at least a half o dozen of us there. Sorry don't have specific pics of the other guys. I'll be in the fastback I just stole from Chopped 51
