You crank through the length of your bend, ( it’s a good work out )
You sneak up on your radius.
You measure with a depth mike till you hit your target.
THIS IS NOT a PRODUCTION MACHINE.
    It is a precession machine.
Here are a few more pics.
No drawings - But if you need a particular measurement or dimension, just ask.
Hey - these pics give you 1000x more info than I started out with...LOL.

Very nice work! Now maybe I should start a roll bending thread to see what everyone else is using

    Thanks!

It appears that you vary the radius as you work to make the parts in those photos. Is it difficult to make 2 identical parts like that?

    Can you roll 2" X 120 wall 1020? 1.75 X 120?

    YoYo D -

The reason I built this deal was to make identical sweeps.

The DRO & the depth mike help you hit the desiered bend. ( trig - triangle formula )

This is the 4th rev. of this bender - right now it will go up to 1.625 x .134

More die blanks are cut & most of the cad is done for more range in dia. - I plan on going up to 4.0 x .125 -

I will post more in The new roller thread tomarrow.

Arc Master radius gauges help repeat bends as well when roll bending. Digital readout is nice to have, but the same results can be achived without.

Ok - Here are some test bends.

In days gone by, I used play box sand - ok results - but never what I considered good.

This time I used 120g silica carbide.

I capped one side, filled - tapped - and pluged em up

The amount the silica drops while tapping on ground is a - maze - in..!

    The samps are .058 wall 4130 - .065 wall 4130 - .083 wall 4130 - .125 wall DOM & .058 wall TI.

All in all it worked out pretty good.

The smaller dia 4130 bent real nice

The thick wall DOM not so nice.

Biggest Surprize Was the TI - Heat was only aplied to one side & bend was slow - but VERY nice smooth results.

In summary - for short lenghts & slow sweeping arc's this is very do able.

Lotsa work cappin & fillin - but not as much work as building dies.

Would NOT want to do lengths longer than 3 feet.

    .125 + wall - bad idea.

    Any Q's - ask away.

    RMP

I just tried sand bending last weekend. I just bent up a couple little things for my motorcycle. Nothing impressive, but the sand bending worked great. Granted it was only 3/4" tubing though.

I have a ton of pics with what looks like sand bent exhaust from Road America last weekend.
