I started collecting parts for this car for 3 years now. Until recently it has just been a mocked up bunch of junk. The Washington Flathead Reliability Run that Chris and Thee Inland Emperors puts on is going to be local to me this year. I figured I could get it going to make the 35 mile round trip.

Heres the thread of finding the roadster body (2 actually).

I bought a 32 chassis from my buddy dave. It's a real early 32 with a k member with no legs. It was an old farm pickup that got hit on the passenger side reveal and really messed up the frame. It's broke right before it kicks up in the back and cobbled back together. The frame was a mess, but fixable. It also came with a lot of good parts. This was the perfect foundation for the car.

I got the chassis home and looked it over. I had the body at my work and decided to bring it home and plop it on the chassis.

If you notice in the background, we had a major forest fire going on in our area.

I worked on the roadster whenever I got a new part or piece, and then it would sit as my main priority was my 32 sedan.

I pulled the body back off to cut out and clean up the partially torched out subrails. It sits on the frame the way i want it to. Mini channel up front and rear.

  11. That, young man, is what we call a "Nosebleed High Boy." You need to bring her down a bit. But you already know that. Going to be nice.

Wow am I jealous. A pre leg 32 chassis is so rare. Do you have the pedal box too? A collector might swap that early chassis for a much better later chassis. Have you posted on Fordbarn too?

I should add that the pictures on this thread so far are from 2 years ago. I'll try and get them to the current date.

You mean one of these pedal boxes?

I did reply to a thread on the ford barn about the frame. I offered it up if someone really wants it. Its still not perfect and I added some stuff that would have to be taken back out to make it stock.

About this time (Aug 2012) I had the roadster all mocked up and wanted to get back to my sedan. So I brought the car up to my work to store it for awhile. It sat pretty much like this for a year or so.

  24. Don't fret too much about the frame thing Sam, I haven't gotten anybody to step up on the Fordbarn on my offer either, so the line of people wishing they could find one must be pretty short. Ed is probably sincere, but Germany is a long way off. On the bright side, when you get ready to send this one down the road, maybe that set of holes in the right rail will make it a natural to sell to someone down under.;)

At this point in the build, I tore the roadster completely back apart up at my work to bring back home. I didn't have a truck to haul a lot, so it got carted home piece by piece in my OT blazer. I straightened the frame, replaced part of the rails towards the back and boxed that section in. Put in a different 32 front crossmember in and made new motor mounts (still have to get pictures of all that).

I used all the suspension out of the 3w chassis.

front- old mordrop axle, unsplit 32 wishbone, juice brakes, and reversed eye spring. ( I'm going back to old perches and spring, rather than the new stuff I have in the pics)

Rear- stock 32 banjo with juice brakes and reversed eye spring.

All these parts are slathered in old patina'd white paint.

Heres the chassis all back together with the exhaust I built for it.

Flopped the body on to see how it all looked together.

Now this is the perfect way for a traditional hot rod to be built. Using all original bits and pieces and not rushing the project. If you finish it the way you've done so far it's going to represent the way they were built when this hobby/obsession first started.
