For those interested in watching old sprint cars and midgets in action, we will be racing (weather permitting) this weekend at the Washington Co. Fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. Everyone is welcome to come and spectate for the whopping fee of "f r e e". That's right ....just arrive alive, cruise the pits speaking with drivers and checkin' out the equipment, --then have a seat in the grandstands and watch the action. Here is a press release that will tell a little more about what is going on: The Antique Auto Racing Association invites all vintage car buffs to attend their first race of the 2006 season at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Marietta on May 6th & 7th. Drivers from Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, North & South Carolina, and Indiana are making plans to converge on the local 1/2 mile dirt track with authentic race cars that did battle in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. Some might say these works of art from yesteryear belong in a museum however their owners have spent many hours toiling to return them to their former glory of taking their driver to the Winner's Circle. Winning names like Ardun, Crosley, Studebaker, Hudson, Offenhauser are again amongst the who's-who in the starting line-up where "The Car's are the Stars" for this weekend. The Speedsters class will start off the action with competition coming from stripped-down cars like a 1919 Dodge, or a 1925 Ford Model T, and several Ford Model A powered racers that would have been seen at the County Fair races during the mid 1930's. Next the 'mighty' Midgets will provide plenty of excitement as these small cars will keep fans on the edge of their seat with plenty of three abreast action. Fans will also see a large assortment of early Sprint cars from the 1930's & 40's powered by 4 cylinder Ford Model B engines, Hudson 6 cylinders, and the famous Ford flat-head V-8s. Four classes are scheduled to run on Saturday with the first heat races beginning at 12:00PM, and on Sunday at 11:00AM with gates opening at 10:00AM each day. General admission is free.
