Event Coverage S.E.G.A. Farmington Dragway coverage

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seadog, Jun 25, 2022.

  1. I was supposed to have gone on the Carolina All Deuce Run today, but didn't get my roadster back together in time. So...I drove the 100 miles over to Farmington, NC to see the SEGA event there. It's been a minute or two since I've shot a drag race. I used to go to right many SEGA events and enjoyed them all, but recent illness and family duties have kept me away for more than two years. Today was a good opportunity to pick up a camera again.

Aside from forgetting to change the white balance on the camera from flash to daylight it all came back to me after a few minutes of fiddling with the settings. I managed to stay through qualifying, but the heat was taking a toll so I packed up and came home. I wish I had made myself stay for the eliminations. I hope to get to a couple more SEGA races before the season ends

  3. Thanks for the pictures, when did motorcycles become part of SEGA racing? (Not that I have anything against them!!)

Andy, this is something that Quain has had on his mind to do for a while. Tough to find that era bike, this is said to have come out of a museum to be at this race! It’s also a Gasser.

  7. SEGA hopes to start a class for era correct vintage drag bikes. There was one bike there today, a Harley, from back in the day. If they can get 6-8 period correct drag bikes to come out they will create a class for them and run on a regular basis.

    Great pics!!!! Thank You!!!!!

  16. Fantastic shots!! You don't get that crisp imagery from an iPhone.
P.S. noticed the stands where kind of empty. Was there much of a spectator crowd??? They're the people that pay the bills $$. Also, how big was the field?
We are extending our program to 2 days, this year. Hoping for a good turnout. C'mon down if you're not busy. Lots to do in Central FLA, in the fall.

  17. There were stands on both sides of the track. The ones behind me had more spectators that you don’t see from the photos. Considering gas prices, the crowd was OK.

70+ cars, at Farmington there are multiple bleachers on both sides. Depending on where the sun is has a lot to do with the best (cooler) place to sit, plus many have their canopies set up along the track. Looking at all the pictures, it looks like a pretty good crowd.

  20. Tom, thanks for your excellent coverage of the SEGA racing at Farmington, I know you wanted to be on the All Deuce Run and I was surprised to see you at our first gas stop if just to say hello, we did miss you my friend. HRP

  21. I missed seeing you, but you saw me! At least your camera did.
I'll post two photos since my skills lack. That's my companion for the day "Clutch Dumping Dan" checking out the '58 Corvette.

  22. Great photos! My first time at a SEGA event and looking forward to another. No exhibition fun runs there, those folks are there to race!

Finals didn’t happen until around 7:30pm but luckily the temp dropped off some before then. Southern Flyer won the A/Gas final and is one fast car!

Just my opinion, but this is REAL drag racing the way it used to be.
The Southern Gasser's Association, has found their nice because this style of drag racing is very popular, and I believe what the fans and racers want more of.

    I love it Jimbo
