I just got me a 12v glass oilcoil, its a bit loppy though, cant see into it any more.

I was going to open it and clean it up, refill and see if it works. Would love to run it.

Any ideas what oil and how much though?

    Anyone tried to restore one?

I use marvel mystery oil. Nice color and handles the heat very well.

    Great.

Ive been told to use transformer oil but cant find any.

Ive got some 40w straight mineral oil, would that be ok?

Its just got to be non conductive right?

One other thing, lining the glass is a painted metal sleeve. It doesnt contact anything, i assume its just so you cant see the workings, can i leave it out?

Looking at the pic above, that one doesnt have the sleeve anyway.
