It's Time... The historic Portage County Fairgrounds in Amherst, WI will come alive with the sights and sounds of vintage hot rods and custom cars as Rumblefest roars into Amherst, WI Labor Day Weekend for three big days of hot rod fun. The show kicks off Friday, August 31st with traditional rods and customs on the Midway, Faith Grainger's "Deuce of Spades" showing at Rumblefest "Drive-In" at dusk and two great bands on the Pabst Rockabilly Stage. Plus the swap meet will be in full gear and vendors will be on hand selling everything from hot rod parts to vintage clothing. Sixteen great bands will perform on two stages during the show. Gates open at 4PM. Saturday's show will include mini-bike drags on the 1/3 mile dirt track at 10AM then the vintage modified stock cars will take to the track at noon for hot laps until 2 PM. The "Starlets NOT Harlot's" pin-up contest will at 3PM in the Expo building. Marc Simon's "Game Show Trivia" contest will be in the Expo at various times on Saturday and Sunday. The Mid-State Sisters of Skate roller girls will hold roller derby demonstrations both Saturday and Sunday plus they will man their Dunk Tank using proceeds to fund their club activities. Show cars will then take their "Hot Rod Hot Laps" from 2:30 until 4PM. The show's music will start at noon on two stages. Saturday's headline act will be The Trashmen who's 1963's #1 hit "Surfin' Bird" not only dominated the airwaves "back in the day" but also found it's way to movie soundtracks like "Full Metal Jacket" and TV's "Family Guy". The Trashmen will take to the Pabst stage Saturday at 7:30PM. Gates open at 9AM. Sunday will showcase more hot rods, more swap meet and more commercial vendors. Hot Rod Hot laps will be available again starting at noon. The bands start at noon. Sunday's music will close with the sound's of Chicago's Del Morocco's... a hot eight piece group featuring three sexy lady singers. The "DM's" rock the stage starting at 8PM. A total of sixteen great bands will perform on two stages during the show. A weekend admission to the show is a measly $15.00 with daily admission passes also available. Show cars are admitted free. A 15X30 swap space is $15.00... no advanced registration needed. Camping for tents and small trailers is $15.00 ($5.00 extra for electric service). Large RV spaces are $50.00 for the weekend (includes electric). Commercial vending spots, inside or outside, with electric are $50.00. The Portage County Fairgrounds is located 12 miles east of Stevens Point, WI on US Hwy 10. Great motels are located in Stevens Point to the west or Waupaca (12 miles to the east). We graded the track today and have a water truck up and running... After the vintage modifieds run their deal on Saturday afternoon we'll let the hot rods loose on the 1/3 mile....should be a nice, smooth track.
Its shapin' up to be quite a show. No shortage of entertainment here!!! Only thing Im missing is my car.....
We were out on the track today picking rocks, painting the surf stage, cleaning the food stand, booking more vendors and a few more things. Local TV and racing guy Bill Holland will be shooting pro video at the show for broadcast at a later date... Keeping busy...
