I am having a hard time finding a transmission pan gasket for my 58 Edsel. I called the local parts stores and all of the big chains with out any success. I found one online but thought I think I might get some gasket material (cork) and cut it out myself but I also wanted to know if anybody has had any success with the RTV Gasket maker for a trans pan. Anybody use RTV for their trans?

  2. Sounds like you need a better parts guy.....I was on the phone with my parts guy and reading this. I asked him.....he told me he could have it tomorrow.

What kinda trans? If its a large case Fordomatic behind an MEL you might have trouble finding one that actually works.

Seems to be the solution is to make one out of gasket material.

I have used the black permatex, it works good as a gasket.

My son who worked at a dealer said thats all they use anymore for alot of applications...

He did his 4X4 axle covers with it, and nothing ever leaks..

I use the Ultra Copper rtv on my pan in my daily driver. It works perfectly fine, in all seasons.

clean it up, brake clean the surface, put a bead of loctite 518 on it, and it aint leakin' again. I use it for work every day sealing up engines. I swear by it. It will seal up to .050"!!!!
