I ran these last week on my site so I figured I'd share the H.A.M.B. appropriate ones over here as well. Enjoy! I’ve been waiting for a year to drive to Dubuque, IA in January. Yes, I am in fact a lunatic. You see, last year I was ready to make the 18 hour round trip up to Dubuque for the 1st annual Retro Rewind. As fate would have it, going to the show wasn’t in the cards for me. I hit a deer about a week before the show, taking my daily driver out of commission. So this year I was excited to make the trip up for the 2nd Annual Retro Rewind. The plan is to shoot this unique Hupmobile hot rod for a feature video for my MotorNation.tvchannel.
With little time for vacation I took off Friday at noon. By the time I got some ToDo List items knocked out and got on the road it was almost 3pm. With about 7 ½ hours in front of me I hammered down and made my way to Marion, IA where I was lucky enough to crash on the couch of my friend and amazing artist Todd Jones. Thanks Todd for hooking me up! No, not a hot rod but check out the engine...
Early Saturday morning Todd and I headed off for Dubuque’s Five Flags Center for the 2015 Retro Rewind. Todd was vending at the show along with a few other friends of mine including Ed Tillrock, Gears & Gals and a ton of other folks. It was cold out, REALLY cold out with temps in the negative without the windchill. The countryside between Marion & Dubuque was really beautiful in it’s winter wonderland-ness. The show takes up as much room as is available in the building, packing in a bunch of great cars and bikes!
What a great lookin' car show! Reminds me of the shows around here from the '60's. Don't usually like indoor shows, but this one looks like a fun one!
Although the show was small, I think you can see that the overall quality of the show was very high! Lots of great rides and people to hang out with. I’m glad I made the trek, just wish I could have stayed longer! Gears & Gals was on hand to sell their great magazine. As was pointed out on my Facebook page, there are a lot of NO’s on this list. Can anyone help come up with a list of Yes items that would help make a traditional styled hot rod & kustom car show stay on track? Nothing against the cars that do not meet the criteria of this show but there are plenty of other shows out there for them. You wouldn’t take a Mustang to a Corvette show, this list is just to help make sure the right kind of cars come to the 2015 Retro Rewind. This lil fella must have had a home down in the engine of this barn find 36 Ford. Parked in 61 and just recently brought out, still with dust on it and little things like this guy. That's it for me for this show. See more of the coverage including the motorcycles on my site here.
Travis - thanks so much for taking the time to post the images. I still cant believe you made the trek all the way from the middle of KS!!!!
Blew a tire on the way to this show. Still very worth it. Nice to get out in the middle of winter to such a good show. Cant wait for Torquefest.
Travis ! Fantastic shots as usual my friend ! Always amazing angles ! Also, glad that this year's was a "deer free" trip !! Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
