Found a pair of slots for the back of the Coupe this weekend for $60. I got all exited and had to mount them up. Since the old girl was on four tires, it got rolled out so I could get a good look and clean the garage.:D
Now I just need to get some killer deals on everything else I need to finish this thing. I'm really hoping to get this thing down the strip next season. This car has ended up being my LONG term project.

Looks great! I love being able to roll the project out of the garage. Good time to sit back and take it all in.

This thing just gushes excitement. Wish there were more SERIOUS Chevies!

The taillight treatment is perfectly blended, a nice subtle custom touch that just fades into the fenders. Very much in keeping with the overall functional Gasser theme.
This car has a professional look about it, everything is in the right place.
I ordinarily hate those slotted Ansen types...but never see them where they belong.
This is where they belong. Great choice.

I don't usually rave about a car. I like this one. (and I'm a Ford nut)

Not a big fan of the omnipotent 9". My Brother owns Pro-Gear Performance Drivetrains (204-783-4327) and he rates the 9" as a moderate to fair unit for race applications. For a street car... no issues. But I've seen a few let go at the track and the failure tends to push the pinion out forward and it will almost always take the driveshaft and the trans case (if not more) with it.

I'm a huge BIG fan of Dana 60's. Not only are they a bit more period correct but they are bullet proof and for drag applications they are actually cheaper to build than the than the 9".

I have one in my Scout (31 spline, spool, 4.56 with welded axle tubes) and it's the last thing I worry about. In my opinion the Dana 60 is the most visually appealing diff with the big ol diff cover out in plain site. Sure they're more work to set up and weigh a bit more, but once you finish welding in braces and brackets on the 9" it's only about a 20 lb difference.

The 8.8 Ford diff is another great choice. Far stronger than the 9". Unfortunately, NOT HAMB friendly.

I'll be following this build... way too cool not to
    Cheers

Thanks, that means a lot. The car was in need of a little fattening up and smoothing out. I removed the rear quarters to tub it and put them back on 1" wider, the lower rear quarters are cut from a wheelbarrow. The roll pan was cut from the crown of a 53 Chevy trunk lid. The taillights are 63 Corvette upside down.
I've been periodically attacking this thing for three years, and I really appreciate the positive opinions. Really helps me know that I'm seeing things right, because sometimes I have ideas that don't end up looking right.:D

What kind of times did he run in that. I was lined up behind him at the Dragfest, but never was paired up with him. The engine sounded pretty good, but was wondering what he ran on the skinnier rear tires.

  28. ...I'm not sure on his time but it did run pretty good for a street car, neat to see these old Chevies haulin down the strip.
